Yeah, in the past I have had a few of those, always on the same side. When I felt one in my throat I would blast it out with a Water Pick on low power. Worked like a champ. Now that I think about it I haven't had one for many years now.

+1. I always heard of 'em called "Tonsilolith" or whatever, not a tonsil stone. I remember my Brother Sam, and Drew now that I think about it. Both of 'em had 'em. They called 'em "Stinkies". Sam found em first. He said something was bothering him a bit, kinda nagging and uncomfortable. He used the backend of an old toothbrush to basically pop it out like a pimple. Nasty, aint even the word. He got a big one out once, and dried it out on the dashboard of his Honda. I swear on all that's holy, I didn't make that up. It sat overnight or the next day, and it was stone-like. Effin sick, man. Seriously.

I get then every few weeks but my tonsils are enlarged from many cases of tonsilitis. That and wearing a nightguard for grinding my teeth (compartment syndrome in both legs had faciotomies done but still some pain at night )

Poke um out with my index finger and gargle no biggy.

Maybe I'll complain to my pcm and have them taken out before i separate.

Also called tonsilloliths.

I used to cough those up every year or two. Really foul smelling, as you said. I'm not a doctor and I thought they were bits of stomach lining coming up.

I asked my doctor (a GP) about it once and she had no clue what it was. (I didn't show her a sample, I just described it.

Well I had my tonsils out a few years ago and after the surgery the surgeon told me I had tonsil stones. Mystery solved! Interestingly, I don't get sick (colds/flus) any more since the surgery. Those stones are basically just bacteria factories sitting there in the back of your throat. I can see how easy it could get be to get sick from that gunk.

Used to get them several years ago but not so much anymore. Gargling really hard with peroxide would usually break them free. I just assumed it was some kind of low level tonsil infection.

KusoJijii

I used to get them all the time because I used to get "tonsilitus" a few times a year. My current girlfriend figured out I had hay fever type allergies and now that I treat that before it turns into ENT infections I don't get the stones anymore.

oem3105

I get them from time to time. A couple of years ago, I asked my doctor about them. His simple explaination was that they are "calcified spit." His suggestion to help prevent them was to drink more water. I have to admit, I tend to see them more when I don't drink enough water.

Have for years. I had never heard a name for them though. They get kinda build up in little pockets in the back of my throat. Occasionally they pop out on there own, but usually I force them out with the back end of a toothbrush. I have had huge gobs of this stinky stuff come out of my mouth before. And yes, they ae quite stinky!!! I am quite sure that's why I have had bad breath for most of my life. Brushing my teeth, rinsing with Listerine, I mean nothing gets rid of it.
I have thought for years that they were related to me not having my tonsils out. The way I figure it is that my tonsils basically rotted out and these things grow in the cavities left behind. My doctor, dentist, or anyone else has been able to tell me what caused them or how to get rid of the situation.

Oh, Lord. I swear those vids were all I could stand.

My Brother would get them fairly often. My Mom was a Dental Hygenist. She had told me to brush at least twice a day. Floss once a day. The one biggie that people almost alwas seem to miss(Per her experience in dentistry), was BRUSH YOUR TOUNGE AND ROOF OF YOUR MOUF!!!! She had told me that these were from bits of food, and(Believe it or not) dead taste buds. Just like skin or any other cell, they eventually die and reproduce. When they slough off, they have to go somewhere, and that's an easy place for them to go and get stuck. Too, she did tell me that drinking plenty of water and chewing sugar free gum(A lot) will definitely help. I may have had 1 or 2 my whole life, but my Bros(Who have not so good dental hygiene) have had faaaar more than that.

I just had a wisdom tooth taken out and after about a week I started getting a weird taste coming from that area. I decided to get a dental mirror and a bent toothpick and dig around in there. I used to get them pretty frequently but haven't had one for several years. I now gargle every two or three days with hydrogen peroxide. It works wonders for oral hygiene. No bad breath if all the bacteria are dead. I am a little concerned about what the peroxide does to the tooth enamel but so far no problems. I pick up a very large bottle at the dollar store.

These are gross, but they are a fact of life for me. I water pick out my throat about once a week to rid myself of these stinky buggers. If you get these, a water pick is the way to go. It will break up and get the ones out that are deep in your tonsils. I gag every time, but I don't have halitosis anymore.

I wish there was a "anonymous" way to reply to threads for situations like these. It took me a long time to find the best way to get rid of them so I feel it is important to share. I'm just not really proud of the fact that get tonsil stones.

When I was in my mid twenties I was getting recurring strep throat and constant sore throat issues. May have been strep, maybe post-nasal drip.
