"......when your time is up, your time is up, you don't have a say in that," said Thornton. "But, you do have a say in what you are doing when your time is up and I wouldn't be anywhere else, doing anything else, but this job."

Many people believe that honor, courage, and commitment are outdated values. I doubt they would win that argument with OFC Thornton.

Welcome back to the street, brother.

Godspeed, Officer Thornton. Here's wishing you tremendous success in taking as many drunks off the road as possible.

As usual, some people just don't get it. Perhaps it's time to increase the penalties and close some more loopholes for drunk drivers.

No one will be able to argue with the SFSTs if he can demonstrate them with a fake leg :)

I realize I'm not even in the same ballpark, let alone league, but for two months this past winter, I was demonstrating SFST on video to my DUI suspects with a broken toe. The look on people's faces when they tried to BS why they couldn't do the tests was pretty funny.

I love this profession.

We have a guy with 1.5 legs. He can outrun most people.

BAMF.

Having spent some time on the pine after a chance encounter with a DWI driver last year, I can tell you it is quite motivating to hear a story like Officer Thornton's.

While my situation was nowhere near as harrowing or dire as his, I can empathize with the feeling you get when some drunk makes a decision which alters your life forever.

Ofc. Thornton, you are an inspiration.
