How often do you guys take out your ARs that aren't shot that often and re-lube or oil them? I don't get to shoot mine very often and don't want rust to form on it in between uses and want it to be ready to go at all times. Or is it even necessary to do this?

Thanks all!

Also it is stored in a soft case with a large desiccant pack.

Whenever they look like they need it. If you cannot leave a fingerprint outline in the lube is a good time to add. For longer term storage I tend to use a grease as opposed to an oil.

Oil will evaporate over time. As said, use grease or Remington Dry Lube spray. I have used the Dry Lube spray on Axe’s and saw blades while storing them during the winter out in the garage and those items were fine in the spring.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I would look at it at least monthly. More often in humid climates. As was said, grease for long term storage.

I use grease for long term storage. For the rifles that I use more frequently, I will use oil (grease in a few spots).

I check on all my guns every 3 months. I live in Michigan and I guess if I lived in, say Florida, I would check more often. Probably less often in Arizona.
