Too bad there aren't more folks in position of leadership that not only think this way, but also aren't afraid to voice those opinions.

Truth: He speaks it! Love to hear good old fashioned honesty and common sense.

It's too bad that so many people are afraid to protect themselves in the face of dangers like this. Guns are a lesser problem then creatures like in the story.

Come on Women, get some feeling of empowerment---Protect yourselves to any male threat.

I like how he says, "don't get pepper spray, get a handgun"!

Good on him. The sheriff is right, if this guy has been in jail that many times, it's time to lock him up for good.

This was my favorite part:
And then he said, "I think I better stop before I get sanctioned."

Did you see the survey?

98% either have a CCW/HC permit or plan on getting one.

The other 2% are satisfied being victims.

Sheriff: Time For Citizens To Arm Themselves

And he just now figures this out?

Here in Texas everyone has a gun. I know that, they know that, and it's kind of expected.

Only those who come here from other states to look for a job are kind of shocked sometimes by the gunshows.

It is no biggie. Makes people polite (including me) and I like that.

I think the under-current of his news conference is that when a good upstanding citizen smokes a long time predatory criminal, they don't have to worry about his Deputies rail-roading 'em. I like this Sheriff.

He's 100% right. Glad to see atleast one southerner who can stand up for guns/people arming themselves and not spew racist rhetoric at the same time.

Our sheriff did the opposite when he went nuts and started calling us a bunch of bigots and it was like the town of Tombstone here in Tucson after our Senator got shot.

He call us a bunch of bigots because we got after him for refusing to enforce our new immigration laws. He likes to pick and choose which laws he enforces.

The craziest thing he said was he thought there was a second shooter even though witnesses said other wise. I think he saw to many JFK movies.
He's been very quite lately, maybe he got help.

I agree with his concept about what gun control is supposed to be...but not his recommendation of the "Judge".

Same with "You ain't got to be accurate; you just have to get close." But his passion for protecting his people comes through.

I felt that part of his statement was directly related to his recommendation of the Judge.

Hopefully this will be an on going trend in all states and with all law enforcement agencies.

Agreed, but I'm not sure it is true even with the Judge.

I prefer armed to unarmed, but I prefer trained to untrained as well.

Again, though, good for him. I have had several LEOs around here commend me for having a CWL and carrying regularly. There might be more support for concealed carry in the LE community than some people realize, depending of course on location.

Next up: A.G. Eric Holder of the Obama administration sues Sheriff of Spartanburg county S.C. for talking about firearms in a positve manner and actually having the gall to recommend their use. Meanwhile Brady campaign member sets themselves on fire in front of Sheriff's headquarters while calling for Jihad.

My oldest son lives in Spartenburg. Last Christmas I bought him a G-27 and soon after got his carry permit. He carries it every day!
