It's the first day of a new month.

It's time to go read your State's laws governing justified use of force.

You need to know when you can use deadly force.

Well...I haven't been to a lot of places yet; but the only place I've encountered that is posted "No Weapons" is my place of business. :steamed: Actually, I was pretty sure that was going to happen, so I can't be too steamed. I got my Utah permit Saturday, but can't use it here. It won't be long now, though, and I will finally be able to exercise the new law.

It may not, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't hold the permits as long as possible before shipping them out.. (stupid, but this has been done in the past in other states when a new CCW law passes)

15 miles out of Hurley. I went for a ride today, got nervous as I got closer, thought for sure I was doomed, then I got there and not a single gun battle going on. No blood running down the streets, nothing! Then I bought a fart scented candle and made my way back to home territory.

From an AP piece printed in the St. Paul Pioneer Press

DOJ spokeswoman Dana Brueck said that as of midafternoon Tuesday, the agency had received 145 applications, approved 123 and printed 85 permits.

It appears that if you dropped off your application or mailed it from Madison you may very well have your license in under a week.

Was just reading on another forum, some folks have already gotten their permits... 4 days. That's not bad at all. I was expecting them to just take the full 45 days. Of course, it's nice to hope that common sense prevailed, and it made more sense to try and stay ahead, rather than hold out due to political ineptness.

11-07-2011, 20:16
I think it was a dumb move actually.

Since you have to have training anyway, the 4 hr requirement wasn't that much to ask. I'm mean, come on, people are taking hunter safety courses which have nothing to do with CCW to meet the training requirement and those are at least 10hrs and people were whining about 4hrs for a class that actually is for ccw.

So now what, you still have to have training. Are there going to be less than 4 hr classes now?

Here in Ohio most businesses don't post no carry signs on their own. Usually they get the signs plus a letter explaining how they will be sued into oblivion if they don't post the signs. The letter comes from anti-gun organizations trying to scare business owners into posting.

Yeah, you'll have to alter the back if you're printing the back but the front alone gets the point across. If they don't know they're losing business they will not change policy.

TKO, I would consider an email to Holiday Corporate in Minneapolis, since there are no posted Holiday's in the Metro I would think that the manager or franchisee put the sign up at yours.

Congrats,

Not sure how your WI. law reads but in many states those signs carry little or no weight. If you carrying concealed who is to know. If the WI. law spells out clearly where you cannot carry that should be it and any other place that posts a sign carries no weight other than they can ask you to leave if they determine you have a weapon. If you refuse to leave then they can call the police and be arrested for refusing to leave private owned property. So again if it is concealed who will know but be sure you understand clearly how the law is written in your state concerning these signs.

I wouldn't mess with the employer, but the rest of the places that post signs I would politely tell them that you will no longer do business there due to their posting the sign.

As already mentioned carry these:

Mainly because a lot of the businesses are national chains and have realized from other states stores that CCW is not the problem.

Local stuff like the great dane/mall's/small shops are going to be the likely places to post. Buffalo Wild Wings is the only national chain that i know of that posts. I won't eat there...food sucks too.

I have been carrying 24/7 since i received my permit and haven't run into a place yet that I wanted/needed to be that was posted. Except for where i work. I'm working on getting them to change their policy...it's not looking that good. They treat me too well otherwise to warrant leaving over this though...especially considering the job climate right now.

Even places that are currently posted, i suspect will stop posting after a while. A couple years and the signs will simply disappear. Out of sight, out of mind. They will eventually either realize that permit holders are not the problem, or simply forget to put another sign up after a remodel.

Heh, I too am "trying" to get my work place to change their policy, so far without much luck. They have not, and will not, post...which means our clients/customers/vendors are free to carry within our space, but "the man" has a specific policy in our staff manual that forbids employees to carry any weapon whatsoever. I am not sure I understand their logic at all...but like you, my employer has been very good to me over the years, so it'd be difficult to leave in this job market. That said, I would consider a job opportunity that maybe even paid less, if I could carry.

All in all, I have seen no postings in Madison, as of yet. I have read that our malls have posted, but I've yet to personally run into a sign, and I am always looking, whether actually carrying or not.

do these guys care that they lose business?

Mayfair mall has a HORRIBLE reputation for gang fights and robberies....yet if you want to go there you must be unarmed...this is the one place you WANT to be armed...they have security all over the place...i assume they are now armed?

Brookfield square is DEAD center of Conservative country!!...i cant believe they wouldnt allow for CCW there....yea Mayfair mall is in a liberal area and their customer base probably agree's with the No Carry signs.....but Brookfield square? say it aint so

im shocked at how small the signs are....i may be walking past them all the time w/o noticing....id like to see a standardized sign...large/yellow with a photo of a gun with a circle/slash through it....most are just words.....i have to look at everything the store has on the door to see the sign or lack of a sign.....its kinda annoying.

Ill say it again for all of you ' Do these guys realize they are losing business because of their stance????' PF changs at Mayfair lost my business last week... if i have a gun on me im not going back to the car to change it....im going back to the car to drive somewhere else.....the only exception is the Milwaukee Zoo for me and my family.... i need to get some cards to hand out, but to use them i need to go back to the car, disarm, walk back to the store, then back to the car again to leave....im not gonna do that

Send an email to Applebees corporate and get their response to the restaurant being posted, make sure you include that you didn't eat there because of it. I've never seen an applebees posted in any other state, so I would expect this is a manager doing it on their own. Most chains will crack down on the manager very quickly once this is brought to their attention.

Peter

Remember, there are size requirements for signs stated in the law. If the sign doesn't meet those requirements, you are not legally 'informed' and thus cannot be ticketed simply for being in the establishment with a concealed firearm.

That said, i wouldn't patronize any establishment that posts, so any sign is enough to make me not spend money/time in that place of business.
