Little is known at this point. There was apparently a "man with a gun" call. Responding officers apparently shot the suspect, who is in custody. It is not clear at this point what agencies responded, whether there are victims, whether officers are OK, etc.

Anyone got more?

I am kind of interested in hearing why this guy thought it was ok to have a gun out.

Here is a little more: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5izr5WStN2o9WKBfisvd0BxMhdOOQ?docId=13abaa0065174e56a60d0eed6b581a4d

So far it sounds like campus PD officers showed up very quickly and engaged the suspect, who was seen earlier with a gun. He pointed a gun at officers, and was shot.

It's interesting that this is so deeply buried in the news. Cops show up quickly, take care of business, and it's a non-event. Someone gets killed on a college campus, and it's world-wide headlines.

Oi.

It happened while Occupy Cal was protesting and Occupy Oakland joined them. Utter chaos.

To become... Occupy The Front Page?

Pinko's right, I love how the double standard works. You'd think ANY shooting on a college campus, OIS or not, would be huge news. Apparently theory and reality are seriously at odds.

And in the midst of the college president blasting his own PD . . . why anyone would want to be a Berkeley campus cop is beyond me.

I must have missed that in the news. What did they allegedly do now to piss off the Big Cheese? Their jobs?

Yeah pretty much  I hope they have a really good discount on classes for campus cops for them to put up with it.

As an aside, you can usually tell of what bent the reporter is by how they refer to the university. Conservatives generally call it Cal, and libs call it Berkeley. (The exception is football, and then it's always referred to as Cal.)

I ain't no lib but we always called it Bezerkley when I was growing up in SoCal. It never changed it's spots, as I can see.

Several officers responded. "They rushed in and I heard scuffling," Nevels said. "I heard them say, 'Drop your gun, drop your gun.' I personally did not see a gun, but the (campus) Police Department said yes, there was one."

Totally off tangent I know, but I miss the days on GT when a statement like the above would have brought out a dozen or so posters who'd be arguing that cops shouting/saying "drop your gun, drop your gun" could have meant the gun was still in the guy's waist or backpack. And therefore he wasn't a danger to the cops, so the cops shot him for no reason.
