Hey guys, I'm a little new to glocktalk as a whole, but i've lurked a little on the black rifles forum and done a few searches. I'm just going to roll off some thoughts on my plans and see what kind of thoughts people care to chime in with. I'm not going for the absolute best rifle out there, but I'm looking for something above the standard so to speak. Not something that is only a monthly plinker, but something I could count on in times of "trouble"

I've got about three options i'm interested in.

1) "Build" my own. I'm considering a DPMS lower with a Bravo Company upper. The lower looks to be around $400, with the upper being around $800 (I'm guessing BCM uppers are worth the price of a whole Bushmaster haha)

2) Buy a complete DPMS Panther Oracle.

3) the LGS has a complete CMMG for sale for $900

Any thought? Opinions? Insight? from people who obviously know more about these than I do. I kind of want to put my own together (It makes me feel more attached to something if I do the work on it, sentimentality I guess)
I don't plan to own more than one AR15, so I want to buy once cry once.

Thanks!

Out of those three options following your logic of buy once cry once, I choose #1.

But if I was only choosing one rifle I'd go with a Bravo upper and lower just to have them matching on my one and only rifle.

Your first option is no question the best out of the ones you listed.

Second, would be the CMMG. I have a M4 LE model and it has been great. Nothing fancy but its a good AR that will work when you need it to.

Option 1, and put that BCM upper on a BCM lower

I bought the same brand of upper and lower the first time just to have them matching. Saved the federal tax that way.

I just got a spike's mid length upper today. The quality on this upper is fantastic. I can't wait to shoot it. Everything is assembled correctly, finish is excellent, and the bolt has been MPI and HPT. The gas key is staked properly (looks like any colt or lmt I've seen). Can't be happier with it. I can't say if a BCM or LMT upper would be better or not. For my purposes, they wouldn't be. I can't justify the extra money for an upper I won't be taking to war. If money is not an issue to you, get the BCM.

If you want the DPMS lower, I'm sure you can find one way below 400$. A dealer near me has complete spikes lowers for 230. Stock and all.

Thanks for the reply's!

The only reason i was going to do a DPMS lower, is because BCM says their is a waiting list for their lowers.

Anything special about the lower? Unless it's got a fancy stock or trigger, $400 is a bit pricey. Otherwise, I definitely vote for putting it together yourself.

I just finished building my 1st AR.

Check out these prices on a quality AR 16"

Striped lower in stock at Brownell's

Spikes 16" Upper

Now you chose your stock but buy a complete stock kit and not just stock.

Here's how to do it, have fun:wavey:

That's $750.00 and whatever stock kit you add. This is a chrome lined barrel with M4 feed ramps and a very good LPK, hard to beat for under $1,000

This is a good deal. And I believe $400 for a DPMS lower is too high. You can do better.

Whoops i messed up a price.

The CMMG rifle is $800, with a quad rail hand guard, 1/9 twist Wasp barrel.

How are CMMG rifles, are they more of a "shoot once a month" AR, or something more durable? How do they compare to DPMS, Colt, or BCM?
Mil spec atleast? or above standard?

You will get different opinions about CMMG. I am 100 percent happy with my M4 LE model. Finish is nice, its accurate, and 100 percent reliable. CMMG is mil-spec, quality stuff.

Sounds like that what im after. The price seems too temping with all the normal bells and whistles I want so I can slice the pie on the way to the kitchen =)
