View Full Version : Favorite AR pistol grip?

11-18-2011, 15:11
So I just got me a new AR and it is awesome. Only thing that is bugging me a bit is the skinny pistol grip. Somehow I forgot that I disliked it in the military too. Anyways, I'm looking at the Hogue AR grip because I've generally been satisfied with their products and think that this will probably be like everything else I've owned from them.

Before I drop the $20 on that, does anyone else have any input or suggestion, possibly with size comparison to Colt size grips?

I like the ergo and the magpul miad. I had the Hogue an it was nice, but I didn't end up like the very defined finger grooves.

Magpul MIAD.

Magpul MOE+.

Ergo grip by a longshot. I have little hands, the ergo feels smaller to me than the MOE and A2 grip.

11-18-2011, 16:19
If you want a little bigger grip get a MOE and an Ergo gapper or an Ergo with the Gapper.

The Hogue grip is just as small as the G.I. but has those obnoxious finger grooves.

Make sure you get a gapper.

The MagPul MOE grip works for me!

11-18-2011, 16:36
I don't mind the A2 grip.

The MIAD is what I use by choice, but the Ergo is also excellent.

11-18-2011, 16:49
I have the MIAD and MOE and I've found that the configuration I use on the MIAD feels the same as the MOE. So, cost wise, the MOE is a better choice for me.

Magpul MIAD.

I second the MIAD. Better adaptability over the MOE I have

11-18-2011, 22:25
I love the Egro grip. Fits my hand like a glove.

Magpul MOE

I have a MIAD and love. That said its set up like an MOE and most I know have it the same way. If you have average medium size hands save your money and get an MOE. I'm itching to try an MOE+.

I like my Ergo. Haven't tried all the others. It might just be me but I think the Tangodown grip looks goofy.

+1

bought a new MOE+. haven't installed it on the lower yet, but so far, just holding it feels good. then again, i am used to vietnam era m16 grips...

Ergo Suregrip.

11-19-2011, 08:03
Ergo grips are my choice.

11-19-2011, 08:09
I love my Hogue grips.

11-19-2011, 08:43
Hogue FTW.

Hell, buy two or three and try them out. Sell whichever you don't like on GT.

This is probably what I'm gonna do. All the grips listed are pretty inexpensive. I may just have to buy several and try them out for a while. Maybe I can find a place that stocks a few.

+1 on the houge.

11-19-2011, 13:59
I have medium/large hands and I love the Ergo grip, the regular A2 is like torture to me. I was thinking of trying the MIAD when i set up my next lower though.

11-20-2011, 03:28
Big hands. Love the Tango Down BG17 (large grip).

Now that looks promising!

Magpul MOE gets my vote. Fits my large hand well and just plain feels awesome to hold and fire over the generic grips. I hate finger grooves on non-handguns.

Ergo suregrip all the way!

11-20-2011, 12:22
Ive tried the Ergo.. and liked it .. tried the MOE it was Eh... Ive been itching to try a tango down... Anyone have thoughts on those?

11-20-2011, 15:48
Now that looks promising!

It's fantastic. Always like the shape and feel of the TD pistol grip, but it was just too small.

11-21-2011, 22:27
I really like the Hogue grips myself.

11-21-2011, 22:42
I just switched from the moe to the ergo grip. the moe is great and I will use it on another rifle but the ergo just melts in my hand

11-21-2011, 22:53
Everyone has his own favorite pistol grip, but really, it's the least important part of the entire AR, imho. Have various ones on my ARs. They are all fine and do the job just as well as the lowly A2 grip, which I like.
Btw, the MOE+ grip feels really good in the hand, for those who like the MOE grip, but like the feel of the rubber of the Ergo Suregrip or the Hogue grip.

11-21-2011, 23:08
Just got my MOE-K today, I like it slot better than the regular MOE. The smaller shape fits my hand better and the straighter angle helps a lot

12-02-2011, 12:30
I ended up going with the standard MOE as it was the first one I found in a store. I actually like it a lot. It's thicker and seems to have a different angle. I can't wait to go try it at the range, if this damn rain would go away.

12-02-2011, 12:34
I like the ERGO Suregrip, MAGPUL MOE, and MAGPUL MIAD. I had a Hogue on my first AR a few years ago, but I eventually swapped it for the ERGO Suregrip. Most of my builds have the MAGPUL MOE or MIAD grips.

ERGO SureGrip

12-02-2011, 12:53
magpul, most everything ended up being magpul on my black rifle.

12-02-2011, 22:12
Oh! In the spirit of full disclosure. While changing the grip, I walked to the living room to answer my work cell phone and dropped the little metal pin that operates the safety lever. I searched for about 15 minutes with a flashlight on my hands and knees, cursing myself the whole time before I found it. Lesson learned, stay in one place even if work tries calling you...

ERGO SureGrip+1 Their all I use even on my Ak and shotgun........

Magpul MIAD Large Configuration

12-09-2011, 15:27

12-09-2011, 19:41
Tango Down BG-17 or BG-16. The 17 fills the hand more and is my preference, but my AR has a 16 on it right now.

12-09-2011, 21:32
I prefer the Magpul stuff, but have used the Ergo also. These are my favorites

12-10-2011, 09:57
i debated this very question, and was just about sold on the Hogue, as i use the palm swell/finger groove type sleeves on just about all my full size pistols. In the end, i went with the MIAD, and have been happy. I have large hands, so needed to use the largest front and back portion for the MIAD, but it feel very comfortable in my hand when shooting. At the end of the day, as someone already said, for the $20-30, you can probably buy a few and try them out, and not get hurt too bad selling what you dont' want afterward

12-10-2011, 10:18
I love the Egro grip. Fits my hand like a glove.Have the Ergo on a couple of rifles. Fills the hand nicely with the "palm swell" area.

12-10-2011, 10:20
I prefer the Hogue with the gapper.

12-10-2011, 12:23
I'm a fan of hogue grips on my AR's.

12-10-2011, 16:07
Look into the Ergo grip line. Just picked up one for my new M&P15 Sport. I hate the military issue grip as well. The Ergo fills the hand nicely. It also has the palm swell.

Isn't the MOE just the MIAD with the medium backstrap?

Isn't the MOE just the MIAD with the medium backstrap?

MOE is about the same circumference as the MIAD medium configuration, but MOE doesn't have the texturing that the MIAD has on the sides and backstrap and the MOE doesn't have the single finger groove at the top of the front strap for the middle finger.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Don't have them in front of me, but that's what I remember observing when I swapped my MOE for the MIAD.
