Well, went to the gun shop today to get an LMT MWS .308.....walked out with this-

Reason I didn't get the LMT is because the deal on the SCAR was too good to pass up. Black Friday sale......got this for just over $2000, brand-new out the door. The $700 I saved by getting the SCAR, I'm gonna combine with the $1200 I had saved for an optic for the LMT and get a crazy optic for the SCAR......might go with an Elcan Specter DR 1-4x in Dark Earth......either that, or the new EOTECH SU-231A (EOTech EXPS3-0 w/ 3x Magnifier in Dark Earth)......any suggestions on the optic? I'd like it to match the SCAR if possible, and I want a setup for close quarters.

I like the 5 different shades of Flat Dark Earth on her.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics- I JUST got back from shopping with my wife...:faint:

that was a good switch, the XPS combo + magnifier takes up all of the rail space no matter how you cut it but you can do close and long range in a snap. and the sight picture is superb

here is some eyecandy for your next FN

That was my first FN. I paid a lot more than you did! Doesn't matter, though. I had to have it. Then this happened (so far). I love FNH guns!

I think I'm gonna go this route-

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EOTech-MPO-EXPS-3-2-HWS-TAN-G23-2nd-Gen-3X-Magnifier-TAN-/300620721223?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45fe642c47#ht_3776wt_1555

EOTech EXPS3-2 w/ 3x Magnifier, both in Dark Earth

I have a Streamlight TLR1 I'll throw on too....I'm gonna run the rails with just black ladder covers; the SCAR feels great without all the rail protectors, AFGs, and VFGs on it. I tend to feel very good holding it with a magwell grip; it just feels very natural in terms of balance, etc.

racer, you have to get some optics, i can't imagine having to shoot using the mini peep sight on the FN2000

Yep... I went so crazy buying guns, I ran out of optics money. So, now I've got to work on that. :) The EOTech EXPS3-0 Transverse with a magnifier looks perfect for the SCAR-16S. (I've had it on my wish list at Midway for a while.) What about the FS2000?

I did get a sight for my FNP-45T - a Trijicon RMR RM07:

well my setup barely has room for the magpul backup sights you see but it all fits. and it fits a bit better than the SCAR because the charging handle doesn't reciprocate

but if I wasn't going for cool points I would save my money and get the primary arms magnifier because really magnifiers from eotech, aimpoint , and primary arms all magnify the same

Soon? Probably not soon. But, it's on my wish list. So is a PS90 and an SLP shotgun. Oh.... I'd love to get the not yet available SSR rifle. Sort of like a SCAR-17 on steroids. FNH makes the coolest guns, IMO.

OP, stay away from the ELCAN, IMO. The EOTech you mentioned wouldn't be a bad choice, but I'm partial to Aimpoints.

Lots of Eotechs going down due to the recoil impulses on the SCARs. I would stick to Aimpoints or quality optics until LG Sorts everything out.

If I remember correctly I think it was happening on the SCAR L and the SCAR H. That I would have to confirm but I'm currently deployed will have to check it out when I get back I want to know too. I think Grant is just saying there is some "odd ****"(technical terms) going on in the receiver that is the root of the issue. I know the laser issue was resolved and pretty sure the Elcan was too but once again will have to check on that. I know guys have used Nightforce scopes on them with no issues and I would put an aimpoint on anything!! The problem right now is that EOtech is the issued SOPMOD sight.

I do not thing the odd **** going on in the receiver is and issue for the weapon its self in term of longevity as when we were at the plant in Belgium they had what looked to be about 10 guns with 100K on the receivers and still going strong.

I dont know anyone yet running an S&B on it but in a perfect world I'll get the 1-8 when it comes out and put it on the 17S.

Avoid the Elcan at all costs. It is a POS of the highest order. Its only a question of when it fails, not if. Those external adjustments are terrible, and they suffer from a wandering zero badly.

With the money you saved, I'd look hard at some of the really nice glass like the Leupold 1-8 or the S&B short dot, or Nightforce scopes.

Somehow, that doesn't surprise me. So not only does the SCAR break it's own stock and some operators thumbs, but it breaks EO Techs.

Not for us lowly mortals. As far as I have heard, everyone that has SBR'd one had to have the barrel cut.

It seems the SCAR is rough on pretty much anything with electronics.....everyone with an Elcan Specter DR has had nothing but praise for it, including the JTAC guy that was with us in Afghanistan. What is the main issue with the Elcan besides the ARMs mount?

I might just say **** it and get a TA31RCO-M150CP that is calibrated for M855 from a 16" barrel. Can't go wrong with an ACOG at all. I've found I am pretty quick with an ACOG using it as an occluded sight with the front flip-cap closed. Good for 50 feet and closer, but POI issues come into play when doing that past 50 feet.

I ordered my TA31ECOS-G from these guys; they pretty much rock.....still gonna do more research, but I might just get the M150CP with Red Chevron.

http://4scopes.com/4x32_rco.htm

I'd like the ability to go from close quarters to mid-range, which means a 1-4x scope, or a red dot w/ magnifier. I'd like avoid a scope, due to parallax being important to use it even for close-up stuff.......maybe an Aimpoint and 3x Aimpoint Magnifier w/ Twist Mount? The question is, which Aimpoint?

Not to mention the external nobs are subject to getting knocked off fairly easily.

I remember reading somewhere that SOCOM was getting an XPS transverse battery model instead of the older more recoil sensitive Eotech 553 for the problem on the Scar Heavy.

How much does the XPS3+magnifier in a flip mount weigh?

Been doing more research......I've outlined a few things I want out of the optic I buy for my SCAR-

I WANT magnification, but I also want a 1x ability. I want to also be able to use the 1x feature without shouldering the SCAR, as such, being about to put rounds downrange with the stock folded.

I've done research, and the only two optics that come to mind that can assist me with this are the Trijicon ACOG TA31F-RMR, and the TA31ECOS.

I already have a TA31ECOS, and I love it. I figured two ACOGs won't hurt a thing. Now its a matter of deciding whether or not I want to spend the extra $100 for the TA31F-RMR. I'm getting less with the TA31F-RMR, as the TA31ECOS has the ARMS QD mount, and back-up Iron Sights. Honestly, I might just buy the TA31F-RMR just to try something different......but that Dark Earth Brown ACOG would look SEXY on the SCAR........choices....choices....oh well, I'll be in the field doing nothing (guarding a re-trans site) all week next week, until friday. The guy at Quantico Tactical gave me a Trijicon Catalog, along with a metric ton of other catalogs, so I'll be sitting on my arse doing nothing for a whole week deciding what to get.

You have a few 5.56MM rifles with 4xBAC ACOGs, I'd consider something like the Eotech package that comes with one of their optics with the controls on the side, and the flip-to-the-side 3x magnifier. There's a package deal going on somewhere, with the optic, magnifier and flip-mount, in FDE, for a good price right now.

I loves me some Eotech, they're from my home state of Michigan. Of course, so is Trijicon.

I needed to take advantage of the .308, so I put a magnified optic on it.

On a 5.56, while the range is still there, I would definitely just throw a T1 on it and call it a day. Either way, you can't go wrong....

Well guys.....I just canceled my order for the Elcan. I can't bear to take the risk of buying an $1800 optic I've never used.

I just ordered another Trijicon ACOG TA31ECOS instead. I got one with the Red illumination this time. I got one already with Green illumination, so I can still have SOME variety I suppose.....

I just trust Trijicon ACOGs more; I've used them for the past 5 years, and I'm honestly afraid to spend that much on an optic sight unseen.

I think the TA31ECOS looks better than an Elcan on a SCAR anyway....not my pic...
