Was wondering which ammo u all think is best for a .357 sig model 32? Which type of ammo for target practice and also deer hunting?

ga arms ammo for plinking. Gold dot 125gr hp for self-defense. My next defense rounds are going to be ranger T's.

I use Speer 125 grain Gold Dots for both. Although I still haven't managed to get close enough to a deer to shoot one with the gold dots. I figure 50 yards maximum with this handgun/load, but to be honest about it, I always carry a rifle when deer hunting - the handgun is backup and (if I get close enough) for a handgun shot. I also use this gun/load for pig hunting and I have got one of those with it. NO, no pictures, I forgot to take them I was so excited about getting a pig with my handgun. He's just a fond memory in my belly now.

The Maine Warden Service carries P226 in .357SIG with Gold Dot.
Their firearms instructor told me, that he shoot two moose with his P226.
He said both were one shot drop.
So since deer are smaller, I would not think you would have a problem.

I don't know if anyone can definitively say any round is "the best" for any caliber, since there are so many good options available today.

From what I can tell Speer Gold Dot is the standard ammo by which all other ammos are measured, so it's a great starting point. Of all .357sig ammos Speer 125-grain Gold Dot appears to be the only one with documented stopping of bad guys.

Lately with the little shooting time I've had I've been trying out 147-grain JHP --- the Double Tap 147-grain Gold Dot I bought several years ago. I like the milder recoil and in the backyard water jug tests it did just as well as the downloaded BVAC 125-grain Gold Dots I also have.

If and when I get the time I'm going to run Speer 125-grain Gold Dot head-to-head against 147-grain Hornady XTP. And if I collect enough plastic bottles this winter I'm going to run tests on the Federal 125-grain HST, Fiocchi 125-grain Extrema XTP, 124-grain Hornady XTP, and the 125-grain Double Tap Gold Dot I also have.

I'm not a hunter so I can't help you with that, but for range ammo I buy the cheapest brass available. That's usually Federal American Eagle or Fiocchi found online at reasonable prices.
