I have waited until I passed the 500 round mark before posting this, however I now must confess "I love it"! I am a Ruger fan when it comes to their long guns and revolvers, not so much with the center fire semi-auto's until the LCP a few years back.

I have enjoyed 500 rounds of flawless operation, in a little gun that has that "good feel" .The trigger was fine for this old revolver shooter, I find it clean and crisp. What more can I say, flat, light, 8 rounds of 9mm, reliable and accuracy is supreme.

I am not crazy about the lawyer gadgets, however I was not crazy about a "plastic" gun in 1988, then I held a Glock! For the price, features, and ergonomics I find this little pistol to fit the BUG/OFF DUTY needs very - very well

Since my wife confiscated my 709, this little jewel has filled a void in my daily attire.
I stoke mine with 147gr Hydra-shok right now, have not been educated as to a better load as of yet. 9mm is offered in loadings that are supposed to perform well in shorter barrel semi's however I have not read any reports on it's performance.

Anyone else echo my sentiments?

Chief, I have been thinking of getting the LC9 too, is it safe to carry hammer down safety off?

It has a pin block similar to other semi autos, so I do,. The safety is redundant in my opinion coupled with the long pull, and the firing pin block....

Not a real big Ruger fan, but I carry the P89 in 9mm Luger at work. I have heard from others that they like the newer Ruger. Another one I know of likes their little bitty 380.

I bought my wife a Ruger LC9. I found it to be a tack driver right out of the box. I was shooting clover leaf 3 and 4 shot groups right out of the box at the 7 yard line.

It loves Speer 124gr 9mm Gold Dot and I've had zero malfunctions. I've put about 250 rounds through it.

I don't really care for the magazine safety and if it was my gun I would deactivate it.

I wish it was on the approved back up / off duty list for me. I'd buy another without hesitation.

Interesting. I might have to consider one for future purchase, or something like it in 45 ACP.

I have been hearing of this type accuracy with the LC9 too, that is the current NYPD duty round, they may use the +P though.

Chief,

I carry 147 grain Winchester Ranger SXT in my duty and off duty 1911 9mms.

I think my BIL wants to buy my P238 and the LC9 is on my short list to replace it. How does it compare in size to the LCP?

I have never handled the LCP but it I would not mind carrying the LC9 as backup or off-duty gun. I'm not a fan of the thumb safety either.

The 230gr Hydra-Shock has been our issued round for our Sig P220 for almost 20 years. Federal's HST round is also a very good expanding round according to ballistic gel tests FWIW.

For about 2/3 the price of a Kahr P9, it looks like a good option, especially since it is a locked breech action.

Whats the purpose of the LCP anyway? to defend yourself against ticked off chipmunks?

LCP is nice as a 2nd gun, or one to throw in my pocket if I'm walking the dog. I am considering the LCR for a retirement piece.

I have considered getting my a family member of mine the Ruger LC9. They would probably end up using the safety on it - and 8 rounds of 9mm would be good compromise since I know they won't end up carrying an extra magazine, but it is still small and slim enough to carry it everywhere. I think Ruger has been doing a good job lately. LCP, LCR, LC9...lots of good options from them. Hopefully Glock will follow and open up their line a bit for more off duty/bug options.

I carry Federal HST 147 grain in my 9mm's.

You know you are a filthy infidel for putting 9mm in a 1911 dont you?

my bad I miss read it I thought you were talking about the .380 LCP.

I would be quit comfortable with the 9mm.

You just got to remember to get a solid hit on the chipmunk, if you just wound it they are almost impossible to stop once their adrenaline is raging.

 true, same goes for red wigglers if you are unfortunate enough to have a 32 acp!

9mm loadings are so abundant now, and many agencies have had excellent results with some weight/pressure combinations. I feel confident with the LC9 stoked up with some good hollowpoints. This little thing hides, and is quick to come to duty.

I bought one in .38 Special awhile back and it is nice, the Hogue tamer grips do well in reducing felt recoil with +P loads and the trigger pull is sweet.

My buddy has the LC9, and he loves it. I haven't shot it yet, but the trigger is smooth. I've been tempted to pick one up as a BUG option.

650 rounds down range, everyone is wanting to shoot this gun, last 100 were 147gr hydra-shok. I continue to be totally impressed with the super fit and function, as are the others that have fired it. Kicking around holster options and best load for performance out of the short barrel.

I carried the S&W 3953TSW 9MM as an OD / BUG on my prior department with Speer 124 +P GDHP ammo and found it quite accurate and manageable from a 3.5 in. barrel....

Chief, how is the LC9 re lube, can it run on less like the glocks or does it require more like the kel tecs?

When I got it I cleaned it really good with alcohol, and got all the goop from the factory off. Then I applied a nominal ammount of ballistol. Each cleaning I go over it with a little ballistol soaked rag exterior, and just like a Glock, a smigen of lube on contact points.

Seems to like this serving, has not burned or coughed yet.

Its good that you passed the 500 mark before shouting the acolates of the pistol. Sure is embarrassing to toot the horn and then have it break after a box and a half. I haven't had the chance to fire one yet, but I thought Ruger had a good idea to follow up the LCP with a 9 mm that wasn't that much bigger. Must have really sucked for the folks who bought those little bitty .380s just to find the ammo shelves bare when they went to buy bullets. Enjoy.
