I am confused. You say not a lot o f reais l world results in nine years, yet some people say that Columbus and San Diego are happy with this round. Does that mean happy after a few shootings? Are they using the .40 180 grain load?

The 147 seems have have had the most real world results that have come out. All other calibers and weights there has been just a few reports, mostly anecdotal. As posted you are going to have to give it time to earn street credibility.

San Diego PD uses HST ammo in all approved duty calibers, which now includes both .40 S&W and .45 ACP, in addition to 9mm. They use the 'heavy' HST bullets in all three calibers and report excellent performance. Columbus, Ohio PD replaced their formerly issued .45 ACP S&W service pistols with S&W M&P's in .40 caliber a few years ago. They're using HST 180-grain .40 loads and have reported it to be extremely effective when the shooter does his or her part.

My Niece has been a cop in Colubus Ohio, along with other realitives of mine for probably 25 years. She is now working out of SVU. She EDC's a big heavy steel S&W 45acp, and can knock the eye out of a nat with it ! I have not heard of any changes she has had to make. She has carried this gun and still does for the last probably 15 years or so. If this was the case with her, I would know, cause she hates 40S&W. Ha.

Well...don't know what to tell you, CM. All the folks I saw at their firing range had S&W M&P pistols in .40 caliber.

I believe ya amigo, but perhaps that is just for the patrol units.. As far as my Niece goes, she's like her Uncle (me, ha.) carries a cannon eveyday.

I'll email her in a day or two and see what is going on. I got a full plate right now. i shouldn't enven be on here now. Had a spare few minutes, thought I'd drop by...

Stay safe man. ;)
Merry Christmas.

Hey Canyon Man! Can you give me her initials via PM? I've been with Columbus for 26 1/2 years. We use the 180 HST in .40, the 230 HST in .45acp, and 124 Gold Dot in 9mm. The HST in .40 has been good. Not sure if we have had any OIS with the .45 yet. .40 M&P is primary carry weapon. Tac teams carry HK45.
