So,.........I'm picking up a 640 with the NYPD spec matte finish.
Anyone have the 411 on these?

This is a weird one,.......seems it's a "no dash" model, could it be a "first run"?
Seller states:
S&W Model 640 NO DASH, NO LOCK, NO MIM .38 Special Revolver that was shipped to & purchased
from the NYPD Equipment Section and was nothing more than a locker queen for many years.

"No dash" is the original. Each generation after that gets a "dash" number.

It makes no sense to me why NYPD stopped allowing J frames for back up and off duty carry. I believe its because it doesn't have the required 12 pound trigger pull.

If they would have weapons with decent trigger pulls they wouldn't have to fire so many rounds when they have an actual use of force shooting.

Yup -- looks like an original .38-only 640 with the exposed rod.

I have one that I had tuned buttery-smooth by a local smith, with about an 8-pound pull. My wife liked it so much, she declared it to be her gun... :crying:

Oh well -- at least it's still in the family...

I carried the 640 no dash for 8yrs as an off duty then qualified with a Glock 26 and I'm not allowed to switch back so it sits in my locker til I retire. It has an excellent trigger and I'm sorry I gave it up for off duty carry.

Yea, I saw that one in the classified.....You're gonna LOVE IT !!!! I have one and it's one of my favorite BUG pieces....I keep mine loaded with either the Speer 135 +P GDHP or Federal 125 Nyclads....And yes, the trigger is a gem...I picked up a pair of of Precision Hideout Grips from Brownells and for the price, they're a great set of grips.

I was considering a set of Eagle Grips because I just picked up a set for another revolver and they're absolutely beautiful. Your new acquisition would also look great with a Tyler T-Grip as well with those stock grips..Best of luck with it.....:wavey:

Picked it up from the shop,........
Has a great feel to it, seems to be about 5 oz heavier than a 642.
Will make a great CCW!

Looks great brother.

I picked up a hammerless 2 1/4" Ruger SP 101 today, put 50 rounds of 357 mag through it, great little pistol, handles 38 special with ease too. My first wheel gun.

Want to save now for a VBOB.....but that's going to take some time.........
