This
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/199119/the-colt-45-automatic-a-shop-manual-volume-1-book-by-jerry-kuhnhausen
and this
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/193148/the-us-m1911-1911a1-pistols-a-shop-manual-volume-2-book-by-jerry-kuhnhausen
These books are very well regarded in the 1911 circles.
I have them both and they are a wealth of knowledge.
Take care,
Dave

thank you,
anyone else?
"The M1911 Complete Owners Guide" and "The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide" bith by Walt Kuleck are also very good and are more directed to "users" rather than woud-be gunsmiths. They are available at www.scott-duff.com for about $30 each.

The best general information is available on the web.
Kuhnhausen's book makes all other books superfluous.
