View Full Version : Advantage arms 22 LR conversion : Most reliable ammo?

I have a 22 LR conversion for my Glock 23 by Advantage Arms.

Federal Auto-Match is the worst for mine. Federal Bonus pack is acceptable but still has FTEs.

CCI-Mini Mag and Stingers work well for my Walther P22. 150 rounds without one failure. I have to buy more ammo to see what works best for the Glock conversion. What is your absolutely best for reliability?

Edit:

This is the list recommended by the manufacturer:

DO NOT USE STINGER OR ANY OTHER

HYPER VELOCITY AMMO.

*

DO NOT USE REMINGTON

“THUNDERBOLTS”

*
*
Recommended ammo for the following kits:
*
17/22, 19/23, 26/27 - Federal AutoMatch, Remington Golden Bullets, 550 round Bonus Pack, CCI Mini Mags and Remington 22 Target, packaged 100 rounds in a 3 inch square clear box with a green and blue label.
*
20/21, 29/30 - Remington Golden Bullets, 550 round Bonus Pack, CCI Mini Mags, and Remington 22 Target, packaged 100 rounds in a 3 inch square clear box with a green and blue label.
*
NOT Recommended:* Any Winchester ammo, any Federal ammo other than AutoMatch, Remington Thunderbolts, CCI Blazers, Stinger or any other hyper velocity ammo, any standard velocity ammo other than the Remington 22 Target.

I have the same kit you do, but use it on a G19. 40grn mini mag solids is the way to go been flawless for 2,300 rds, and is the only recommended ammo for the 25rd mags. Don't forget to lube properly(more than you would w/o the kit).

Remington Goldens work great, just the occasional dud. Its the only thing they do work well in.

I follow the manufactures recommendations and they work fine.

Tried some federal bulk pack once and it worked like crap.

Rem GB's for me. Occasionally there will be a FTF, but that's okay, it just a fun conversion, not going to depend on it for anything.

Well worth the money invested to make lots of noise and smiles. I can shoot for hours and spend next to NOTHING with my G23

I just got mine last week and it works well with the remington GB. I t also works well with Wal mart Fed bulk pack but I have to be careful not to rub the slide with my thumb as that seems to slow down the slide and cause a ejection failure.

As others have said Remington GB works great in mine. I've used the Mini-Mags and it does shoot tighter groups. But the GB is fine for almost anything you do so why pay for the more expensive stuff. I've tried the Federal Bulk Pack and a few others. Stick with those they recommend.

Wondering this myself...

I have a kit for my G23 Gen 3.

I bought Remington Golden Bullets and have had issues. Not a "lot" of issues but enough to call it unreliable. I have had failure to feed (mostly) and failure to eject, but no fail to fire. And I get one or two of these about every other mag so far. I am about half way through a box of 550 right now.

Most people see an improvement after 500-1000 rds of break-in. And don't forget to lube it heavily.

Over 10,000+ rounds through mine, and it works fine. Mostly Mini Mags, and occasional Remington GB, and as others have said; when I tried the non-recommended brands - they did not work well. My AA conversion kit is for my G19.

AA Kits for 19/23,20/21 and 1911's.

Rem. G.B. and Mini-Mags are the only ones I have tried that work in all 3 kits.

I cannot wait to try some of the recommendations. Ill just buy them all. It will cost less than 2 boxes of 40 SW.

What do you do with ammo that doesn't work out for you? Give it to the range officer?

The Federal Match from Walmart definitely didn't work for mine. I'll lube mine, too. What lube do you find works best?

I am curious, whats so special about GB's that they are recommended for use??? Is it the velocity?

Almost every 22 i have owned ran Fed/ Rem/Win with few problems.

The AA kit I have for my G19 works best with CCI Mini Mag solids. That's all I shoot in mine, plus its cleaner ammo than most .22. Its almost 100 percent reliable with the CCI

I have tried Remington Golden Bullets, but I got a lot of FTE with them.

Also don't shoot CCI Stinger out of your AA.

Golden Bullets run about 100% besides the duds. Federal Auto Match worked okay, but not as good at the Golden Bullets.

I have over 3K rounds in mine for a G23. Remington golden Bullets. Like others have posted, occasional ftf. No fte or feeding problems. I really like mine. It was well worth the investment.

Remington GB's...buy them at Walmart in a carton of 550 rounds for under $20. Remember to lube

No. I ditched the Glock adjustable sights and put in a Glock 6.1mm metal sight.
Shoots fine now.

Very little adjustment of the sights was necessary for me. I am hitting a 3" swinging target at about 15 yards consistantly.

The conversion kit is the BOMB

CCI MINI MAGS all the way and no issues at all

I have 2 kits. One I have had for years a 17/22/31 kit that I have put a ton of rounds through. Its well broken in and will eat everything pretty well.

My new gen 4 19/23/32 kit only has a few hundred through it. It likes golden bullets and mini mags(like the directions say.) It chokes badly on federal bulk.

It won't work. If you ever used one of those speed loaders you would immediately know what I mean.

But with the ruger mk series that speedloader is the beez kneez

Where are you impacting with the 6.1 sight? With what ammo? I called glockmiester and they recommended a 6.5 for 22lr

With the adjustable sight cranked low I was still shooting about 2-3" high. With the 6.1mm I am on the money. Sights can be a very personal thing!

For some reason the Remington Golden Turdlets do work, and as was noted above, the AA kit is about all they do work in. This creates problems if you have other .22 autos.
Great for practice, and the occasional misfire will show you PDQ if you are jerking the trigger...

IN your Gen4 G19 kit, have you tried the HP golden BUllets? Thats all my Walmart sells in the 550 packs...cant find any round nose ones

Very true. Thanks for the reply. I have an extra set of 6.5. I'll try those first and see if I want to move to 6.1. I can always throw the 6.5 on my g32 gen4 slide when I get it.

From what I remember, my compact kit is acting like my full size kit when it was new. I'd say about the same.

Tried CCI AR Tactical 22lr ammo in my kit and found them compatible. Sensed greater recoil than Golden Bullets and saw more flame and smoke out the muzzle but also experienced more jams, few as they were. In fact after the first couple of jams, simply re-lubed per AA recommendations and problem essentially disappeared.

AA's Glock conversion page stated the following: "We highly recommend Remington "Golden Bullets" for everyday plinking and CCI MiniMags or Federal Automatch for better accuracy." I've tried all three brands and have found overall performance ranking from highest to lowest corresponding to how they're mentioned in that sentence.

So I'm at the store and I had called yesterday to make sure they had a kit in stock. They had an AA kit for 19/23 Gen4. I have a G23 Gen4, so cool. I get there at lunch today and they had received some TSG kits for 17/22 Gen3. Great! I have a G17 Gen3. So now I have to decide. I really hadn't researched the TSG kits since I didn't think I'd find one.
After mulling it over I decide against the TSG kit.

Wish me luck with my AA kit!

My Glock 22 only seems to work 100% with CCI stingers which are on the list of ammunition not to be used. Golden Bullets are about 95% cycle reliable. I won't even bother with anything else.

At 95% and considering price, I will stay with the GB's and make lots of tiny holes in targets. LOL

You won't need luck. I've found my AA 19-23 kit as mechanically sound as my G19 G3 - well, almost. Ammo choice IS important though, and as many posts have mentioned, keep it wet (well oiled). Enjoy the .22 savings!

My G22 kit works about 98% with RGB and I don't bother with anything else. RGB's are cheap and readily available. And 98% is fine by me.
