I'm looking at 18,5" security barrel and was wondering what's the quality of this product? Thanks in advance for your answer :wavey:

I have a 24" fully rifled barrel for my 870 that was made by Mossberg.

Quality is the same as any other Mossberg barrel I have seen. Keep it oiled and it should outlast you.

Why? An 18.5" parkerized I/C choke bead sight Police barrel for your 870 is only $101 by calling Remington at 800-243-9700 and follow the prompts to parts and order part number 242243.

Thanks Guys. I've got the gift card that will cover the cost of such barrel in full and it looks like the store has those barrels in stock. They are not selling Remington made barrels BTW...and I can't call Remington either. I'm in Canada.

Yes, Remington exports. How do you think you got the Remington Shotgun?

I've got a Mossy 18.5 on my 870. Perfect fit & finish, have run all manner of shells through it, no issues whatsoever.

I do realize that, but my question was rather simple.
Wasn't it?
It was about the quality of the replacement barrel made by Mossberg.
Are You saying that this product is somehow inferior to Remington?
Again I have a gift card that I may use and if this barrel is of decent quality, why would I spend $120-180 dollars plus tax and shipping (that is the local, Canadian price for the barrel made by Remington from the other Canadian retailers) out of my own pocket to buy the original one?

Thanks a lot. I just found similar kind of feedback on Midway USA from the owners.

Trying to help you get the "Right" item and save you from yourself. So since you get snippy about it I will leave you to your own devices.

Uhhh....ohhh...and thank You.

Not sure if it would cause POI issues or not,but unlike the Remington barrel, the Mossberg bead is not mounted on a pedestal.

Thanks a lot, I will check this barrel out soon. We will see. Since I'm going to refinish the whole shotgun anyway, I may just order to cut down the existing barrel and order some decent front sight as well. Thanks again to those of You who answered to my question :wavey:

I have a Mossberg 18.5" barrel on my 870 and have had no problems with it. I did mount a XS Big Dot from sight on it.

Other than availability, why on earth would you want a Mossy barrel for an 870? Is the Mossy made of a better steel, prettier, choke or what? I fail to understand the logic that makes one pursue a non-factory barrel when a factory one can be readily had.

IIRC, years ago it seemed like 18.5" Rem barrels were hard to come by however that hasn't been the true for years. I mean Rem is in the business of selling parts so they'll produce for commerce.

What's the point? Trying to make a Frankengun?

Barrel is just the barrel.
If it works and is of decent quality, it's fine with me.
It's the barrel that is made for 870 after all.
Nothing that will require re-fitting, so I don't really get the "Franken" thing in your post.
If I can have one that works for free instead of the one...that works for +/- $150 why would I spend my money?
Just to please the purists?
Well...anyway, thanks for your input.
I'm going to check it out today.

I have run one on mine for several years. Haven't had any problems with it. It was what was at the dealers when I got my bird gun.

12-26-2011, 16:43
I had one, it was ok, but the pattern wasn't as good, and it saying Mossberg always bothered me. Spend the gift card on something else. Buy a Remington barrel.

Thank You everyone. Nevermind. I've got a great deal on the pair of Danner Patrol boots that I need for work. On top of that I will receive $120 refund from my employee, so in the end I paid less than $30 for this pair. I'm going to cut down the existing barrel later on. Have a good one :wavey:

haters gonna hate...if you end up getting the mossberg made barrel you will be fine. its a lot better option than paying 1k for a 'custom' shotgun with a bunch of bolt on parts. hahahaha
