Hi everyone. Hope you all had great holidays! The kids got us tickets to the Jimmy Buffet concert at AA Arena in late Jan. I went on line and saw they have a "no weapons" policy. What's your experience there? Do they have metal detectors, etc? Also, what about parking? Anyway, I'm not thrilled about driving to Miami unarmed.

I was hoping to get some specific info on the AA Arena. I'm not thrilled with either locking a firearm in the car or being unarmed in Miami.

uhhh I would not worry about too much crazyness going on at a JB show. Lots of drunk mom's and over weight guys in Tommy Bahama shirts. The bad music is about the only crime going on there. :) The area around AA is the issue, bring the XCR

Obviously I disagree about the music lol. The traveling, parking and getting in and out of the arena are my concerns. I also don't like leaving a firearm in the vehicle in an area like that. It's a delema.
So, no one knows if they use metal detectors, scanners or wands, etc?

I hope you find your answer but it probably depends on the event. In the old Orlando Arena each event or event planning would determine what they wanted or needed to do. Wiggles show or the Circus no checks a hip-hop concert likely wands. In between it just depends. Jimmy Buffet I would guess they would a low risk setting but I can't guarantee it. Good luck.

They will more than likely have wands, possibly pat downs. Not just looking for weapons. But anything not supposed to be going in . There is a no weapons policy at events like that at the AAA so I would not attempt it. Miami has gotten a bad rap with crime over the years, reasonably so. There are areas in any city core you don't want to be in . They have cleaned up the downtown area pretty well here lately, especially during events. The most you might encounter at a Buffett concert is a homeless guy. Find a spot up under your dashboard you can hide your piece. If anyone breaks in it is going to be for a couple seconds to find what they can and get out of dodge. Just park in a decent manned lot if you can't at the staduim. Those guys watch the lots pretty close, you won't have a problem.
You could always park out of downtown and take the metrorail in as well. Two blocks from the arena and generally a lot of folks on the way. Nothing happens when there is a crowd of folks. Just stay with the flow and you are good to go.

I've been to basketball games and concerts at AA arena. I remember them looking in bags and I remember seeing wands, but I don't recall being wanded.
I've parked under the arena in the garage as well as across the street. Parking fees that I've paid range from $20-45 depending on proximity to the arena. I've never seen any evidence of vehicle break ins at any of the locations that I've parked in.

It is also a numbers game. 15K cars the odds of the bad guy picking yours to break into are actually pretty low.
I went to a Florida Marlins game a while back and it was calling for rain so I brought along my Army Gortex jacket. When I went to go in I was carrying the jacket. They made my lift my ball cap to make sure I didn't hide something under my hat and paid the jacket no attention (was not on their script). I could have had my AR SBR rolled up in the jacket. :tongueout: The "security" people have a script they sort of run the script and probably don't care much about it just wanting to pick up a paycheck.
A Devil Rays game the guy sent me back to my car because I had my Benchmade folder on me. I told him it was a common pocket knife under FL law and not a weapon but he said it was a deadly weapon... Oh well.

I don't blame you a bit.
