Got a couple of 1911's recently. One is a Springfield RO. Shoots great but magazines aren't much to brag about. I bought a Wilson Combat mag with it and love it as expected. However, dealer's price was stout. No suprise there huh?....almost 50 bucks.

Where's a good site to get some Wilson Combat mags at desent rate or can you recommend another good brand? Would like government size 8 or 10rds.

Thanks!

I think Wilson 47D's are about as good as it gets. I own 4 1911's and I wouldn't dare risk using any other brand. I always get mine direct from Wilson.

Chip McCormick
Tripp Research
Wilson Combat
Mec-Gar

These are my mags of choice,....in THAT order. Brownells is where I get mine.
Cut out the small middle man that marks up his pricing, go direct or go with
a volume seller like Brownells,......they offer a Mil/LEO/FF discount

CMC power mags work fine for me, especially the 10 round ones. Buy them on sale at Midway. IMHO Wilsons are over priced.

I've got at least 20+ CMC mags with the newest followers and all but one is flawless. The one that isn't must have a weak spring as it won't initiate slide lock.

Brownells, but also keep an eye on midway as they have sales on 1911 mags quite often.

I agree with brownells. I use Chip & Wilsons and if you watch the site, brownells will have sales on the three packs of both from time to time.

I buy Wilson 47D's at my local shop for $25. I also have some Metalform GI style mags that have been 100% reliable.

Wilson 47D's are about as good as it gets, but there are others at half the price just as good. Checkmate, for one.

Tripps are the best. Chips are very good and easy to clean (disassemble).

Most competitors that I know use one of these two brands because they are both extremely dependable and durable.

I use the Metalform mags in 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP purchased from CDNN at less than $10 each.

all but one is flawless.

Did you take it apart and check the spring. Good friend had a similar issue and his spring was in backwards.

I have thirty 8-Round Power Mags and all are flawless (Midway sales are great). I have 4 Wilson's - also great magazines.

Midway has the black 8rnd powermags for 19.95. I had lots of the Wilson's a lot of the shooting stars and 3 of the Cobra mags. They all seem to be of great quality but the Cobra's seem to be the Rolex of mags. I think the new black powermags are the best buy for a quality 8rnd mag. If you gun store is charging $50 for mags I wouldn't set foot in there.

The CMC Power Plus mags are aluminum frame safe. I wonder if the Tripp mags are the same way? I have plenty of mags, but a few Tripp mags couldn't hurt.

Yes the Tripp mags are aluminum gun safe. Here's a good article and info from Hilton Yam (10-8).

First question.....range gun or carry gun?

Range Gun? Use whatever
Carry Gun? McCormick 8 round power mags, Wilson ETM's or Wilson 7 round 47D's.

You can buy them direct from Wilson:

Prices vary, but if you're just looking for a basic mag, they're only $20.

Ive had great luck with Wilson 47Ds and Tripp rebuild kits in my Springfields. I see no reason to try anything else until they give me a problem.
