First off, I have access to several good reloading manuals and know how to use the internet.

Do any of you have loads in 45/70 that you like using 385gr bullets? I'll be loading these in modern bolt actions and lever guns, so that won't be a limiting factor. The velocity at which you can drive a lead bullet will probably be the speed limit.

I have the following powders on hand:
Varget
748
Trailboss
Benchmark

Bunch of shiny new brass to use so the fun is only just begining.

Thanks in advance.

USe any 400-405gr lead bullet data. Many guys like Varget, I prefer IMR3031 in mine, but every gun is diff. TB would make some nice bunny thumper loads.

A fine choice for the single shots. I used to shoot BP in my SHarps.
BTW, make sure your lead bullets are at least 0.459" in dia for best results.

Not gonna run black powder as I don't want to bother with the clean up.

SMOKELESS load data please. :)

The books are full of good data. What do you want to run, BP equiv, lever gun or full house bolt/single shot? I am running a 340grLFP @ 1600fps in my Marlin GG w/ good sub 2" accuracy @ 100yds using a 2x scout scope.

You're getting sub-2inch at a thousand yards with a 45-70?

I couldn't do that in my dreams... and I have really good dreams!

These will go in Bolt Actions and Lever Actions so we can crank them up, but I don't want to have a problem leading. These 385gr cast bullets are the only ones I'm having right now.

I was hoping that someone would have a favorite recipe that they could share. I've looked through 3 manual and have browsed some online data. Just looking for first hand experience.
