Do you find it limiting in its 5+1 capacity and 18.5'' barrel?

I'm torn on whether to buy this shotgun or buy the Mossberg Cruiser with PGO, and then add my own tactical stock on it. That way I get a 20'' barrel and the higher capacity.

I wish you could just add a mag extension on the 500 series, but I've read you cant do that without replacing the barrel.

I won't be hunting, just range shooting and home defense so which way should I go??

I'll personally take a shorter overall length over mag capacity any day of the week. The persuader is 5+1 so its got 1 more round capacity than the standard 870 while maintaing the same overall length (or atleast very close) and I am not a fan of the Remington mag extension.

yea but the couple extra rounds for only 1.5'' overall length. Does that 1.5'' make that big of a difference?

1.5" and the muzzle weight of two additional rounds makes a big difference to me,what do you think is going to matter to you more if TSHTF,two more rounds,or being the first guy to get lead on target?

i don't know...i guess i'd have to hold both to see how noticeable difference. in a shtf situation i'd definitely want max capacity

I do not find 20" at all cumbersome indoors. And that extra two inches of barrel takes you to 7+1, which i feel very good about.

Nastmag what kind of laser is that?

They do tend to get muzzle-heavy, though, due to that longer mag. My 590 is a heavy *****, and a bit muzzle heavy, but it works well for me. For someone with less shotgun experience, or less upper body strength (although I'm not that well off in that department, either), it can be VERY unwieldy, or even unusable.

I can't seem to find the 500 tactical persuader on mossbergs site? I really want this gun too. Can anyone else find it on their site?

The light is in the foreground and the laser is behind it. My mounts cover the brand, but I'll get back to you.

This is similar to a question I asked a couple weeks ago in General Firearms Forum. I was curious as to whether the extra length and weight of the 20 inch 8+1 shotties that are so popular are worth the extra weight and length. I haven't had an HD shotgun for a while and have been wanting to get one.

Almost every reply said they would take the shortest barrel they could get and forgo the extra round count and barrel length with the weight that comes with it.

If the bbl length really matters that much...... Remington 870 18.00"

The Persuader was my first shotgun. I sold it after just a few months if that tells you anything.

I prefer my Remington 870 or Winchester Defender 1300.

nAS your gun looks like so much gun fun lol, I love it.

Aceman is right, not cumbersome at all, real nice really..

and Orange Imma get me one of those too! i love the M590A1 so much I could pick many different models, a nd I've amost came home with several dififerent models with diff configs several tiems. The 18.5" ones are great BUT- I think Im down to two models. ( luiterally had the M590A1 "Compact- 6 shot" ready to write teh purchase up at the table etc, ready to write it up BUT at the last minute I said, u know, its' better I get the Zastava PAP AK I ws looking at casue Imma give it to my Pop for his 60th bday at the time, and that M590A1 i wou;d jhave kept under my pillow lol.

Either the M590A1 SPX (* 20" Heavy Walled Barrel w. Parkerized Finish, M9 Bayonet and Scabbard, conventional stock (which I like and want, even tho in NJ you CAN have a PG stock on a PUMP, but still im a conventional guy) and its got the picatinny rail, LPA rear Ghos Ring Sight aperature and front M16 fiber optic. its just an exacty copy of the M930SPX but its 20", hBAR, and pump....and 9 SHOT (with an ext that is flush with the barrel, the M930SPX is 8 shot with a flush ext as well but its a +3 rext and its only a 18.5 bbl)

OR...

there is an EXACT COPY of that onen but its called the M590A1 Special Purpose (NOT the M590A1 "SPX" ---- ) AND its EXACTLY THE SAMR *but* it has the regular, Mossberg regular ghost ring sites, NOT The Italian LPA sights. and this one is a little less tja $500 is lik3 475, instread of 600.

A couple of comments -

I am 6'2" and let's just say "more than 235lbs"

I also have shot all my life.

I am very comfortable with my Persuader - which in fact started life as a cruiser and got an ATI stock. I honestly think 2 rounds and 1.5 inches of barrel, while noticeably heavier, is not going to be significantly slower.

I can understand that some, who were not as as big/strong/experienced may feel differently. You can easily create the illusion of the 20" by simply adding 3 shells to an empty 5+1 gun. Not exactly the same thing, but just to get an idea.

Get what feels best to you. I wouldn't feel under gunned with only 5+1. But I'd rather have 7+1.

I own a persuader, a great shotgun. Use mine for HD and 3 gun competition. Never had a problem with the gun.
