Please school me on the + and - of each one. I am thinking of buying one, but I am concerned that I would buy the lesser of the two. I carried one in Rhodesia many years ago, but there was only one kind. Why are there two variations anyway?:dunno:

Two variations because part of the world (UK, Canada, Australia, etc) used the English measurement and the rest used metric. Cannot tell you which is better but all of by FALs are metric. I found it easier to find magazines for them than the inch variety.

Go to www. dsaarms.com That is where I bought my FAL, metric. I believe DSA only sells Metric. I love the FAL. It is fun rifle to shoot.

IMHO...

The "inch pattern" magazines are more robust and durable than the "metrics".

That said....there are faaaarrrrr more metric magazines available on the market than incher.

Even if one concedes that the "metrics" are less robust.....They are still plenty stout and not prone to failure.

You pay your money, and make your choice.

The Canadian R1A1 would also be an Inch pattern rifle.

Why spend money on a Spanish rip-off?

I would rather to the HK route.

WHY? It's inferior in almost every way when compared to the FAL.

Thanks for your service.

As much as I like HK's, I have to agree with you. The FN FAL is in a class of it's own and one of the best battle rifles of all time.

One would be hard pressed to find a better rifle than the FAL.

If you want an exact copy of your service rifle, I believe all the British colonies were using Inch guns.

However around here, metric ones are far more common (since there were another 80+ countries using them) and they're essentially identical.

There were only a handful of Inch rifles in use by Rhodesia, and most of those were used by the police as far as I understand.

The reason they were metric is that they really liked to buy stuff from FN: FAL's, MAG's, P-35's, even FN automatic shotguns.

As an FYI, almost all parts are still interchangeable between Inch and Metric rifles.
Metric magazines fit both types. Inch magazines will not fit a Metric rifle because the beak on the front of the Inch magazine is too large.

That was my next question. Thanks

Doesn't mean it wasn't worth doing.

To borrow a quote from Firefly:

Alliance Commander: "Seems odd you'd name your ship after a battle you were on the wrong side of."

Mal: "May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

I suppose so. The socialist eutopia headed by Robert Mugabe really turned out well, didn't it?

At least they can't blame it on the white man.

I missed the Rhodesian camouflage pattern.

The Rhodesian grass pattern is available from a company in Pa.
They sell pants, tunics and shorts also but you'll have to call for the prices as they are not on the website yet.
