car bag (not really a BOB)

Just finished rotating out the perishables in the car bags. try to do it every year before the end of the year, but you know how that goes. we have one of these in each car and an extra one in the house. all in canvas milsurp backpack from AIM. we have three kids (5, 7, 9). we have a box for emergency car stuff.

thin blanket (airline), bath towel, hand towel
FAK, recent picture of kids (usually an extra Christmas card)
wool watch cap, scarf, 2 pair gloves
work gloves, goggles
sterno, lighter, matches, flashlight, headlamp, bike flasher, glowstix (3)
whistle, bag of napkins, small box of bags
small fixed blade, cheap folder, misc wire ties.
ratchet strap (2 sizes), utility rope, carbiners
bottled water, 3 MRE, beef jerky.vienna sausage, hard candy, cliff bar
cash and coins

I have a car bag too, mine looks like this:

Cash
Water filter
Water bottles
Energy bars
MRE's stripped
Rain Suit
Walking clothes and shoes
Knife, whistle, cord, pills, compass, multi tool,
Boonie hat

I have a good pistol in the car with carry gear and magazines to bring with me and I walk 4 miles every day.

I like the idea of a shovel, I have some small folding ones we take camping. Rain suit is a good idea.

In addition to most/all of the items above, I always have a hatchet in the car/truck as well. Never know when you need to move a tree, or break your way out of the vehicle.

I also have several sizes of knives. Small folder handy for opening stubborn chip bags, etc. Medium one for cutting up fruit, gutting fish, spreading peanut butter (not in that order). And a larger sheath knife, usually a Glock.

Although I have a toolkit, I often have a multi-bit screwdriver in the case as well as EMT shears.

Finally, a healthy roll of duct tape!
