View Full Version : GLOCK's Very Best Year/Gen?

Hey, if you were to venture the "perfect" year of Glock-making -- the height of reliability and well-madedness, what year and which gen would that be? I hear about "early Gen 3" and stuff like "nothing's like a Gen 1 G17" and all sorts of that kind of stuff. And, I guess this is not an absolute. When was the "perfect" 17 made? The perfect 19? Etc? What a fun game this, right?

PS: Holy crap, 401 posts already! Wow!

Gen 2.5. Like the finger groves, no use for the light rail. Long before the recent Gen 3 issues.

My vote is my 2.5 gen glock 27{1996} because the rear rails are like 1 and a half of my newer glock 27{2001} but i cant complain about my rtf 22 cause that gun is great you could stick you hand in greese and shoot that gun fine without loosing your grip at all.

1989 G17 - 100% reliable so far. My favorites though are the gen4 subcompacts.

Gen3 RTF2. All goodness, no ill manners (spitting in one's face - I say, really?) Bonus points for fish gills.

Glock needs to get with the program and take their guns back to this era.

I think that's wishful thinking though.

I have a 2nd gen 23 and 19 and would not trade them for a newer one. We were just issued the 30sf and are having the ftrtb issues. They have the upgraded trigger bar in them.

The year they got the 34 and 35 out, they had their ***** together then. Gen 3s were then complete, as was the 9/40 line. 21/20/30/29 was out, the line was complete at that point. No need for that GAP BS.

Only other better thing I can think of is the SF line coming out, but they had issues at first then, both of them, 21 and the 30. :(

My G-27 is a 2.5 gen, but Gen 3, baby Glocks are OK.

I truly believe that each gen was better than the last. They ALL had their speed bumps with beta testing and subsequently "perfected". Once the 4th version is ironed out with time, could be their best yet.

You mean the comfortable 45's that have yet to have any "issues" whatsoever? Truthfully, if you want a sure thing, buy any GAP if you want to be certain not to have a problem with the pistol.

I have a GEA-prefix (2004) Gen3 G23 that's as perfect as I could ever want it to be. The frame to slide fit is tight, the frame rails are bare steel instead of current production nickel plated frame rails, and of course it came with the good old cast extractor. It also has the black shiny slide finish, my favorite.

RTF2 slide serrations are backwards, it would work a lot better if they were curved the other way.

fanboy Koolaid drinkers. They're nice pistols but have a bad rep.

My dream coolection?

Gen 2: G19, G23, G32, G20, G21

G32 is hard to find in Gen2 but I'll keep looking.

+1 to that! I had a Gen3 G17 from that era which was flawless. I have also had great Gen3 experiences with Kxx and Hxx s/n guns. In 9mm, I have had total perfection with Gen1 and Gen2. I couldn't help but notice that someone took a pot shot at 45GAP in this thread. I'll play! My Gen 3 G37 is the best Glock I have ever shot. Shiny slide, bare metal frame rails, ans snappy trigger reset with the stock trigger spring and connector. the gun has a Kxx prefix s/n, btw.

Anyone have any Fxx-prefix wisdom? I'm looking at getting another .45GAP G37, and a local store has a nice used one with an Fxx s/n. I know F comes right before G! I also would be reluctant to purchase anything with an Exx-prefix due to the frame "upgrade" debacle. Thanks.

Have you heard of any problems with the EXX serial numbers that have had their frames replaced by Glock? I sent my EXX G23 in for a replacement frame in 2003. It was returned promptly with a new frame (same serial # with a "1" prefix added) and has no problems that I know of.

I also would be reluctant to purchase anything with an Exx-prefix due to the frame "upgrade" debacle. Thanks.
