Ok I was at a pawn shop and made an impulse purchase. It is still in layaway. I know they have kind of a bad rap but I had to get it anyways. I picked up an AMT hardballer longslide. I have read all the bad things about them but this one seemed to be in decent shape and had clearly been used but didn't seem to have any galling. I'm hoping it will be a reliable shooter. But the geek in me really doesnt care either way because I now have the gun from the terminator

Sweet! I'd pick up one of those too. Now get yourself a pair of Gargoyles Classics. Please post pics when you get a chance.

Pics! How much did it set you back if you don't mind my asking? I almost bought one but decided to get one built from Fusion in 10mm.

Now you just need to find a 1980's laser to mount on it. LOL

Congrats on the AMT Longslide. If I could find one at that price, I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

ok here it is after first take down and cleaning I am going to go run a few rounds through it. I took out the worn out SA mag that came with it and threw in a wilson combat ETM mag. The only thing that sucks is the larry davidson grips I ordered just barely don't fit. Oh well I guess that gives me an excuse to by another 1911 to put those grips on it.

I will not own any AMT product, but I would make an exception for the Longslider with the top mounted laser.

I've owned two AMT Hardballers and both were junk. I even had a Ex Marine Corp Armour tell me the problem was the crappy stainless steel that was being used to build them. I was a sucker twice, never again, I'll never own another AMT handgun. Hope you have better luck with yours then I had with the two I've had.

Just keep it well lubed to prevent the galling that was an issue with early stainless guns, and you should be good to go.

Yep, that's one of the problems my two had. Little chunks of metal were coming off of the frame. My buddy told me it was because they used the same stainless for both the slide and the frame. In order NOT to get galling you need one to be softer then the other. I also had a lot of Fail to Feed problems too, with BOTH guns and I was using good mags that worked well in other 1911a1's. Just hope you luck out and get a good one.

maybe more goofy looking than 1911 with a rail:rofl:

but if you're happy that's what matters, congrats!

I believe that is the main cause of the issue, or at least what I've always heard.

I'm not always a big grease advocate for the 1911, but I think a good grease on the rails should be a must with these.

Gratz of the good find

I believe this is a more recent one as it was made in irwindale so I think this was after they fixed the galling issue and it looks like a previous owner had the feed ramp polished because it is smooth as butter. But I have been running it fairly wet just in case.

Great looking longslide. I have owned a couple, currently have a Les Baer 6" longslide. It won't increase the velocity of 230 ball much, but the 7" barrel will turn a 45 Super into an awesome weapon. Can't argue with Arnold!
