so far the plan is for a bare bones rifle with the only accessory being a foregrip due to physical issues. this will basically live behind the seat of the truck for pest and predator control, but it will also suffer the occasional foray on an atv, in a jonboat, and god knows what else as i go traipsing all over hell's half acre.

usually this job is left to my old marlin 336, but i want to retire her and switch to an ar platform just to have the spare parts around if i need them for my other ar, and i like the extra capacity and quicker follow up shots if needed.

so far it's going to be a palmetto armory build because half the internet says they're awesome while the other half says they're unproven and too good to be true, so i'm going to judge for myself.

starting with the lower.
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/lower-parts/complete-psa-ar15-lower-moe-edition.html

then the upper. (if they're ever back in stock.)
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/complete-uppers/psa-16-hammer-forged-midlength-dissipator.html

the foregrip will be the magpul moe grip. mags will be magpul p-mags.

here's where i need help, i want a fixed rear sight, but NOT a full carry handle. i want to skip the hassle down the road if i decide to mount an optic.

thinking about this one
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/upper-parts/sights/troy-tridium-battle-sight-rear-fixed.html

or this one
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/upper-parts/sights/daniel-defense-a1-5-fixed-rear-sight.html

i like the idea of tritrium, but having never dealt with the stuff on gun sights i wonder if the dots will stand up to being jostled around and banged up.

Use an LT103, or if you won't be switching it very often, the Daniel Defense equivalent.

If you go tritium, get tritium front only.

The rear 'dots' are too close to your eye, and you can't see them well. You'll effectively blind yourself with your own rear sight. Trust me on this one.

see, that's why i asked, that's exactly the sort of thing i never would have thought of.

and no i won't be swapping this out often, once it's on the rifle it's pretty much there for good, or at least long enough to not be a concern.

now if you'd be so kind could you point me in the direction of tritrium front post suggestions?

Tritium sights...try here: http://www.xssights.com/index.php?nID=sights&cID=Sights&pID=sights&sID=tactical

I DO have them on my rough use ARs and they have stood the test of time and getting beaten by students as well. I have a Ghost ring rear with the tritium, but it is mounted forward of the chamber for the exact reason MrMurphy stated.

I have the DD it is a solid sight. You might consider getting a folder, in case you ad an optic later.

Trijicon makes a nearly drop-in replacement front post for ARs (http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=CP25F).

As far as I know, it should fit just fine in the fixed A-frame for the upper you posted a link to.

if the ar platform is a little overly complicated or a bit "too much" for you then pm me and i can tell you what's worked for me so far up to this point.

there are more than a few different weapons that'll work beyond the ar platform and i've tried more than a few of them.
