I bought a Kimber SS Classic Gold Match, Pre-series II in the summer of 2005 (used) for $875. It was manufactured in September of 2000 and was in nearly mint condition. The shop had it on consignment so I was able to talk with the original owner. He purchased it new in 2001 and only fired 1 box of Winchester White Box through it during the first month he owned it and never fired it again. He also said that he paid $1,200 for it and the dealer verified that.
Since I purchased it I have put about 1,000 rounds of mostly hollow points through the pipe. A friend of mine wants to buy it from me but I really don't have any idea what it is worth today. I also have not really considered selling it. I keep it clean and the SS flats are polished once in a while with Mother's polish, so it still looks mint. I asked my dealer for an opinion on the value but he comes in with a low ball value. He said that the adjustable sight is a big problem and most 1911 fans would want a fixed rear sight indicating it would be very hard to sell at any price. He is not the guy I bought it from so I do not trust his valuation.
This gun is my "Safe Queen" and hardly ever sees the light of day except when I feel an urge to clean and polish it, which I consider it to be a work of art. So, any and all opinions are welcome. It will be interesting and a learning experience to learn what all of the 1911 experts out there think. I posted this thread on a 1911 forum site as well.
