Hey everyone,

I have a Sig M4 shorty that I am wanting to get a sling for. I've seen some on pictures online where the rifle basically suspends off of the front of the chest. It looks like it attaches somewhere on the middle of the ar and only has one contact point. I guess I'm looking for suggestions and recommendations from someone that has more experience with an ar. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I think you are referencing a single point sling that attaches to a mount at the junction of the buffer tube and receiver. Single points are OK but two-points slings are really better for me. I run a VCAS on one carbine and a MagPul MS2 on another, and really prefer the VCAS. Check the link for parts and slings...

Just my preference but I favor the 2 point sling mounted to the stock and aft part of the handguard/rail.

It naturally drapes accross the chest and does not swing freely like single point slings. The sling is a VTAC padded with a quick adjust strap. I've tried different slings and aside from the M1 carbine sling, it is the only one I really like.

Get a Magpul MS2. It's very high quality and can use whatever hardware you want it to. It's an extremely versatile sling that you can set up in seemingly limitless configurations. Right now mine's set up like 357's above. I love single-points, but two-point is nice when moving around a lot in the woods; being able to strap it tight to your back while hiking is crucial.
They can be had on ebay for about $10 shipped, too.

I ran a VCAS for awhile. Points of contact were Noveske end plate and a MI rail sling just forward of the mag well. Worked well but I went back to a bungee single point from TacticalLink.

I need to find a good, quality single point that I can attach to my SKD PIG that I carry at work.

I switched from single point to the padded VTAC 2 point with QD swivels.... I like being able to use the same sling for multiple rifles easily.

The VTAC set up as shown above is what i use.

Same here, just with the rear QD on the opposite side of the stock.

My VTAC setup is identical to the one pictured above and i can't be happier. It's comfortable and user friendly. I switched from a single point setup which was pretty uncomfortable at times.

The MS2 doesn't fit the attachment points on my rifle. Its a well thought out design but its going on the trader.

ok so it looks like the VCAS is obviously a popular choice. The stock on it has the m4 style adjustable butt stock but the forearm is different than most ar's. It has a somewhat smooth metal forearm on it opposed to the more traditional forearm with all of the ridges. What would you guys suggest for a method of attaching to the front of it? Thanks.

Mr Murphy,

Any difference in mounting it near the rear of the rail vs the stock loop at the front?

Ah, you have the MOE forearm. You can use the MSA - MOE attachment at the bottom of this page if you wanna stay Magpul. There are others too. I have the Magpul ASAP on mine (second one down) so I don't have to attach to the buttstock.

Ok so now that I know I have a MOE forearm can anyone help me with suggestions on how to mount a sling on the front side of the magazine and use a two point attachment??? Sorry for sounding so dumb but I can't quite figure it out.

It depends on how you want to attach to the handguard. Magpul makes the MSA (http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG504/51) for the MOE handguard to work with various hook-type attachments, and IWC offers several options (http://www.impactweaponscomponents.com/category/mount-n-slot/sling-mount/), including mounts for QD swivels.

I echo others regarding my preference for the Vickers' sling.

I have been using a Larue Tactical sling for awhile. It's an excellent rig.

MrMurphy

The LaRue is a modified VTAC (it's the same one i use).

Mounting to the rear of the fore-end keeps it out of the way of accessories on the rail and less "dangle' to swing around as the sling itself can be shorter.

I run the padded VTAC sling. Putting them on all my rifles actually.

I'll have to see if I have any pics anywhere, but I use a padded VCAS with a MASH hook up front and a D ring, fastex buckle, and QD swivel in back. It attaches to an IWC snap hook far back on my MOE handguard and DD QD endplate. This setup allows for use as a two point (primary) or single point setup similar to the Magpul MS2, but with the (IMO) superior VCAS sling.

Edit, got some pics.

I think that the Micro QD is the best option for a rear mounted attachment point on an MOE hand guard.
