Hey all,

I have a NRM Colt in Blue that I have been wanting to do some slight mods to. I just can't figure out what I like the best.

First choice is a ROUND Commander hammer with the commander grip safety.

Second choice is a Hammer like that on the WW1 Colt re-issue.

I would also like to find a set of THIN grips in Faux Ivory, but can't find anyone that makes them yet.

So which do you think would look better?

Standard (non commander) hammer all the way :)

Can't help with the grips really, if you want a real ivory I can direct you:

Very nice product. Great guy to deal with as well.

Here are some I purchased from him about 12-14 months ago. Mammoth Ivory.

Excuse my craptacular picture taking ability :)

They of course cost a bit more than faux but they last a life time so spreading the cost over that amount of time they are a bargain!

BEAUTIFUL!!

I wish I could afford REAL Ivory grips, but they are out of my price range right now. They are something though. Thanks for posting the pics so we could enjoy them.

Thanks :) I think the 1911 wears ivory better than any other firearm. Oh the Colt SAA guys are gonna disagree

A bit torn on the hammer, guess I would prefer the round Commander hammer.
Iron wood grips look a lot like ivory. Check out Esmeralda,......love her grips!

I personally like the spur hammer, but that's just me.

I wouldn't go with faux ivory unless it's well made micarta. A well made set of micarta grips is both functional AND looks like aged ivory with just a hint of yellow. Lett Custom Grips used to make these micarta, but I don't know who does it any more. The current micarta grips are just too white and look cheesy as hell though they may be highly functional.

Just get a decent set of wooden grips for the pistol and call it a day. Or maybe stag grips?

Thanks. You know guys in Texas have to BBQ guns  Honestly I carry it a lot, tonight in fact. It does not have the Gen 3 coating from Brown. I ordered it just blued so it shows some wear and tear which I am fine with by the way. I was concern with the durability of the ivory grips but they are plenty tough. I guess if they have been buried in Siberia for 10,000 years and still survive those mammoth tusk are pretty strong. :wavey:

Stag grips are nice but the pair I ordered from Eagle Grips were THICK, was to thick to be comfy in my hands anyways. They were American Elk if I remember correctly. Nice grips but to thick.
