I've been out of the 10mm mix.....I used to use 180gr XTP as a Defense round....but if I took my G20 ...lets say Hawg hunting what would you recommend ....With my old EAA I'd use 180 gr. Hardcast TC.....they usually left two holes...
but I heard use of lead in a Glock was a no no ????

Congrats with the G-20, I have shot my own 175 gr Lyman TCBBcast alloy (wheel weight hardness) thru my G-29 without issue or leading. One thing to remember is frequent chamber inspection looking for any leading and build up at the end of the chamber.

I love the 180gr XTP. Pushing one behind 10.2gr of BlueDot dropped a deer in it's tracks for me, and the bullet made a clean pass through even after taking out a good chunk of spine. In the standard Glock barrel you will get around 1200fps with this load, but I used a LWD 6.02" which got me about 1300fps. You can push BlueDot up to 11gr per Alliant's website, but don't take my word for it. Always work your loads up of course.

You don't want to know what my 180gn XTP load is. And I'm still going up. :)

Welcome back to the 10mm auto Buckeye! The 180 XTP is a very versatile load. I shoot a lot of them. Just finished loading a batch myself a few minutes ago.

twisted1 recently shot a hog with one of my 200 gr WFNGC hardcast handloads. These types of bullets run fine in a Glock barrel. Check for leading after 2-3 dozen loads, but it hasn't been a problem.

Like others mentioned, this advice is spot on. I found leading more like halfway down the barrel, rather than at the end of the chamber, but it wasn't bad enough to be concerned in a hunting scenario. I went with 200 grain hardcast from the get go on my G20. I'm sure the 180 grain anything bullet will work nicely on critters. I usually run a tornado brush down my barrel every 50 rounds. One or two passes, clears what little lead, or powder, is in barrel.

Thats my Charter Bulldog 44 Spl....one of my carry guns...carried it today...

I got tied up in leverguns which equals 45/70 ,375 win. 444 ,356 win and such..worked on a wildcat 32 Extra Special ..a Marlin 32 Special re-chambered with a 307 win reamer so i had a 32/307..the 32 Extra Special ,.. ballistics similar to the new now and almost gone 338 Marlin Express ...Then a severe back injury lead to no hunting for a few years...then very limited hunting..to now no hunting again...I'm pretty well out of the Rifle business except for my sightly modified Marlin 336 30/30 Texan " Slickest 336 action I've ever had"

So I started to focus more on handguns.... Ruger "Six" series ,got out of Glocks now getting back in... (looked at a G23 today at the LGS..)

I like to have a good Big bore while hobbling in the woods...the Charter 44 Spl. while it is light ..the little Charter can only handle modest loads....I looked at a 41 Mag..but the only affordable one was a Taurus 5 Shot....and maybe a Big Bore Blackhawk ???
I pushed Taurus for years to produce a 40 S&W / 10mm ...but they fell short ..a heavy K frame 5 shot Taurus ..instead of a Large frame 6 shot 40/10mm and the S&W 310 always seemed pricey.....

Then I remembered a ole friend ..the 10mm ..and stumbled in a LGS and wham bam!!! A new Old stock 3rd generation G20 SF....after telling the Gun Store owner the rarity of the 10mm cartridge and how everyone one is looking into conceal carry guns..and i asked how many birthdays the G20 has seen there..he conceded in striking a deal and he agreed to trading my way...

There was a post a while back where someone shot some hogs with, I want to say XTP's I thnk they wee 180's or 200's and some of the pictures showed some trees that had been hit were pretty splintered. The hogs were good size too.
Tried finding this the other day to help explain 10mm power. Maybee someone know where this post is.
