I don't see very much about the 40 Super here. Has anybody bought(and shot) the LWD, or other brand, conversion barrel for thier G21? I am currently in the process of getting one from LWD and would like to read any opinions that might be out there.

I have a LWD 6" barrel on mi 21 and only have shot a few. So far seems like a hot 40 not a 10mm but is did start light. I am having issues with crushing the bottle neck.

Changed my mind about going 40 Super, gonna stick with 45 Super. Buffalo Bore's 200 grain JHP is a ballistic match to 10mm anyway. With a 45 caliber bullet to boot. Now, if they will just load enough that I can get some, then I can be happy and stop stressing over ways to spend my money.

Glock 21-OD, Trijicon night sights, LWD 6.61" 45LTH, Wolff guide rod/22#recoil spring, Wilson Combat recoil buffer, but wait, not done spending yet-soon to have LWD 45ACP compensator, Wolff 24# recoil spring. And, hopefully, some of the above mentioned ammo.

P.S. the other barrel is from my Sig P226, on which I have also spent a lot of money.

I have a Storm Lake 40 Super barrel coming in for a 1911. I am having a hard time finding reloading data and Double Tap seems to be the only ammo manufacturer.

A major factor in my decision to go 45 Super.

Wouldn't 40super be 10mm?

Wouldn't 40super be 10mm?

It is suposed to be a little hotter than the 10mm. >1,400fps for a 180gr bullet and the fastest a 10mm would be around 1,300fps. Really not enough to do the project, but I am doing it anyway.

So it's a 10mm +P.

40 Super, like 357 Sig is a compromise. The 40 Super cartridge allows for better, more reliable, feeding from a 45 caliber platform. If I read Wikipedia correctly, the 40 Super case is stronger than the 10mm case, which, I'm guessing, will allow for a hotter loading. Wikipedia does a fair job of describing the 40 Super.

I was completely sold on 40 Super over 10mm until I found out that if I didn't hand load then I would be completely dependant on Double Tap for my ammo supply.

I decided to skip the 40 super also. I'm probably going to skip the 45 super too - depending on vaquero's findings. I don't think I'll want to go to a 24# recoil spring and compensator, when I can drop in a 10mm conversion barrel and shoot 10mm.

G21 is definitely the most adapatble platform I can think of - conversions allow .45 ACP, .45 super, 10mm easily. Given that a stock 10mm barrel is supposed to work in the G21 also, I don't see why you couldn't also shoot any of the 10mm to xx conversion barrels too.

I think you and anyone interested in shooting .40 Super will be very interested in seeing this.

Lot o' water been over the damn since then. I currently have a KKM 4 3/8 barrel/YHM compensator set up for 460 Rowland. I have "Underwood" 185 grain @ 1500+ fps to load into it as well as 45 Super 185 grain @ 1300+ fps. If I decide to get into handgun hunting I might give 40 Super some serious consideration, but quite a few people here are going 460 for hunting. So, I just don't know what to say about having started this thread.

I'm going to modify my G21SF to shoot both .45 Super and .40 Super.
Got everything shipping now as we type. Underwood ammo old news now but like you, I'm intrigued by the caliber and hope it grows in popularity. How's the recoil? I've got the LWD 45-40S 6'' barrel on the way.
