Was wondering if there are any owners of a new production springfield armory G.I 1911A1 on this forum, and what you think of it. I am thinking about trading my glock for one if i can find one for sale around here. the big gun shop about 35min from here doesnt have a springfield, however they have Rock Island armory 5" and the guy said that those 1911's are made on old Colt machinery? sounds like some B.S to me.

Yep,....complete bullship!

Rock Island Armory 1911's are made by Armscorps, in the Phillipines.
Your gun shop soda jerk is clueless!

However, RIA models are solid low cost 1911's......they have had good reviews for some time.

See this link for a ton of usefull info:

thanks for the link, a really good read and he discussed several models in my price range (which would be trading the Glock)

I am still in it for a springfield either g.i or mil-spec, i heard Springfield armory has a great warranty and customer service, and later down the road when i decide to "customize" it, it can be done with minor fitting

There have been a lot of people complaining about Springfields being built
in Brazil. It IS true, however a NS serial prefix is final fitted in the US.
Springfield Armory has one of the best customer service departments in
the business. I have a Springfield Loaded, a full custom build using a GI,
and I have a Compact 45 sitting at another very well know Pistolsmith waiting
it's turn in line.

There are many choices, many great 1911 manufacturers, Springfield best suits my needs/wants!

Springfield also has a REAL Custom Shop.
You can get a basic trigger job, to a full build done. All while retaining the
Springfield Armory lifetime warranty!

I am not one of those "buy American" type. I think that IMBEL's products are great, but I do have issues with the heavy markup Springfield puts on their imported products.

I absolutely love my stainless GI. Now more so than any of my better guns, not that they'll be forsale.

With Springfield you get a forged upper and lower. That is a huge plus for any later gunsmithing, as they may not be willing to work on cast parts.

I have a GI that was made in 2004 or 2005, can't remember. It has been a great pistol, no FTFs or FTEs, using factory and reloads.

Those guys don't get the credit they deserve. Build quality is as good as any I've seen, prices are fair, and turnaround time is not bad.

I own the Milspec A1, I think this used to be called the GI model, prior to the non-a1 gi model.
I love my milspec and would highly recommend it

The Springfield GI and Milspec models are very hard to beat value wise.
Sure you can buy a gun with all the bells and whistles for the GI price if you go with a Philippine made gun, but you are not going to get the quality of a forged Springfield that most any quality gunsmith would be happy to work on.
