View Full Version : Questions about Colt MK IV 80 Series Government
So I've got a stainless Colt MK IV 80 Series Government 1911 on hold at a local gun shop. I haven't seen it yet in person (only online photos), but they rate it at 92%. I believe it is the 1911 and not the 1991 because it has two lines of roll marks on the slide and not three.
They want $635 for it.
I'm not super knowledgeable on 1911s, but have been looking for a decent one for range time. I'm not going to be doing a lot of mods to it.
First off, does that seem like a good deal? and second, what are things to look for, i.e. damage, etc?
Thanks!

I'd buy it at that price
I'd have to see it first.
92% isn't all that great to be honest.
well, without you seeing it in person either, here are the photos I am going by...
Let me know what you think.

That will clean up just fine...I would get it add new fire control parts a beavertail and bead blast it then a tritium front...

If it's in decent shape, then the price is OK. I personally would see if I can knock another $50 or more off. MkIV Colts weren't made during the best time in Colt's modern history.

That's about what a new Springfield Mil-spec is running. I don't care for the series 80 colts though...
Yeah, since its a Series 80, I think that price should come down slightly.
The Series 80 guns don't hold their value like the Series 70 guns.

All true statements above,.......but do not pass over a series 80.
Great value in these, and triggers can be made to shoot with the best series 70 triggers.
Here's my series 80 Commander tweaked by Chuck Rogers

Id offer him $600 out the door.
Thanks for all the responses. I have to do some serious thinking about it. This isn't really a store that does "bargaining". The price is what it is generally with them. May have to take a pass.
My CZ97 has been at CZ for 5 weeks now and I may just be getting the jonez for a nice, large, all metal .45. Though I would like to pick up a decent 1911. Seems like it's slim pickins around here for 1911s.
Nice looking Colt. The price needs to come down a bit. From the pictures, it looks to be 85-90%... but I'm a perfectionist with my pistols.
Need pictures of the internal parts... barrel, feed ramp, spring, etc.
How many rounds have been through it ... :dunno:

Yeah, I wouldn't buy it at that price for that condition.
