Is firing sub sonic ammo through a non suppressed firearm any quieter than firing ammo that is over 1100 fps (roughly)?
There are two components to the noise a firearm makes (three if you count the noise of the action.)
1. Muzzle blast
2. The sonic boom a supersonic bullet makes.
A suppressor reduces the first, but does nothing about the 2nd.
If you shoot a subsonic round you don't get the sonic boom.

Yes it's quieter.

It's quieter, but it can be hard to notice without a can. The muzzle blast can drown out the sonic crack for the shooter. It would be more noticeable for people farther from the gun.
Short answer here. Yes it is
