Now the wait begins. Just applied for the C&R license. It would be nice to have a Garand or a Tokarev show up at the front door, or a crate of Mosin-Nagants.

Yep, it's a pretty awesome feeling to have the UPS guy hand you a gun. My first C&R purchase was a Yugo SKS, back when they were reasonably priced. I think I paid $179 for a VG condition SKS from AIM Surplus.

I let my C&R expire and have been thinking about getting one again. I guess I need to peruse the offerings on the milsurp type sites and see what's out there these days.

Hell yeah. I hear it speeds up the process a little when you want an NFA item, as well. But that's later.

For those who already have one, how long did you have to wait?

For those who already have one, how long did you have to wait?

10-14 days, and average 10 days on renewals. I've read some folks wait around 30 days for new. No real deals anymore, the days of cheap milsurp ammo and firearms are long gone. I just use mine for dealer discounts, mostly Brownells, Midway, CDNN, Numrich, etc. Also burn your CC now.

I was thinking a crate discount once a year or so. Now I need a safe.

Just make sure you have everything noted that you buy or sell in the unlikely event you get audited.

Just a few weeks, IIRC. It was several years ago when I first got it.

Remember that once you get it, you can get discounts at some good online sources - MidwayUSA, Brownells, Grafs&Sons, etc.

I remember seeing creates of Yugo SKS's, and Mosins being sold, couldn't imagine the shipping cost. I used to buy Mosins M38, M44, M91/30's from the best importer/dealer (Aztec) at $59.00 each. The best import stamp ever, so small and fine.

Quite surprising, as I assumed it would be the standard 4-8 month wait like anything else you want ATF approval for.

It won't take long. Don't sign the original, make copies and sign those (blue ink, I do anyway), send to dealers/ companies, and let the spending begin. If you want a list of vendors let me know and I'll send you info. I also have a file for your bound book, no need to buy one, just print and put in a binder. You will need to record your purchases, and disposals.

It took 4 Weeks for my C+R to come in the mail.
First gun was a Polish P64 pistol (9mm Mak).
A couple weeks ago I went to the Peoria Gun Show and walked out with a really nice K98 Mauser byf41. No major paperwork, I just signed a copy of my 03 and he signed a copy of his 01 exchanged them and a little money and I took the gun home. That 03 C+R really works good!

That's what I was thinking! I can do a 4473 in my sleep, but why bother for some things? I'm sure I still have much to learn to be and stay legit, and not run afoul of Big Bro.

Where can I find more information about FFL sales, etc.?

Thanks.

Since you're loaded, no pun intended, sure!

Congrats on getting your C&R. I've pondered it for the last year or so; however, the Mrs Baron isn't real excited, plus my 17 yr old is needing a vehicle, so I think my C&R is still a year or so away, as well as my G20 that I wanted last summer/fall. :crying:

You're my hero!

I had one about 8 years ago, refinished the stock real nice, and let my ex have it when we split up. She was moving to a real crappy area, and I didn't hate her that much.

Do you have a list of suppliers to send your FFL to? It's good to get signed up with them ahead of any orders you can just shop online and purchase right when you find a deal.

Many of them will require a faxed copy. Do NOT sign the original. You make copies and sign them...unless they changed that. I just got my renewal...I should probably check that

I would add Classic Arms to your list.

Missed some major importers. Tennessee Guns (TGI), Inter-Ordnance (aka Royal Tiger Imports), Navy Arms & Gibbs, Old Western Scrounger, SARCO Inc. 90% of surplus guns & ammo are imported by Century Arms. Most everyone else just sells their guns. Be wary. Century Arms always over-grades their rifles. TGI & Inter-Ordnance are preferred.

Y'all missed the good ole days when the iron curtain fell. $13 Mosins by the pallet from Navy Arms (about 150 rifles per pallet dropped shipped). They also had $19 ea Turkish Mausers by the pallet. Gibbs had just about every Enfield in existence for $79. Russian honor guard SKSs by the crate, $59 Norinco SKSs and $69 Chinese Tokarevs, $159 SVT-40s from Century Arms. Didn't hurt to have a real FFL back then too. All the Polytech Legends you could carry for $149 (or less) each. Those days are long gone!

Be wary. Century Arms always over-grades their rifles.

I've heard this as well. Unfortunately I experienced it firsthand with J&G Sales. I received an Enfield from them that was rated as "very good". It was far from even good. I took before and after pics of my project with that gun. Prior to working on it, I called J&G customer service. They were not helpful. As a result, I have never bought another thing from them.

For those who already have one, how long did you have to wait?

First off, CONGRATS!!!:wavey:

I/ve had mine since March 2007 and IIRC I only had to wait about six weeks....but don't quote me on that.

Renewing is faster and changing your address is as easy as sending them a written notice. We just bought a house and I had my updated FFL in less than a week!

I am thinking about applying for my 01 FFL now that I own and don't rent.

My very first C&R purchase was a Yugo EXC and a Kar 98K Russian-capture from Classic Arms (now Classic Firearms). 21 C&R guns later I NEVER tire of UPS ringing my doorbell with another treasure from years past!

You can do that if the Sheriff won't sign. Perfectly legal, as long as you can own certain NFA items in your state.
