Looking at a Remington 1911R1 for $619.99. Good deal? How does it compare to something like a Springfield for value?
I like the R1 quite a bit. I just don't like the fact that it uses the firing pin safety.
Dunno,but didn't just start making pistols again?.....DOC

Great pistols for the money. Fairly accurate and run great with all types of ammo.

Remington has shown an inability to build operational guns as of late. Their customer service is not much better.
Run away, while you still have the chance.
IMO $619 is high if that doesn't include tax. Also the last R1 I looked at in person was lacking in fit and finish.
OTOH it does have metal rather than plastic in the mainspring housing and trigger, the sights are nice and big, and its 'made in USA'.
The stainless version looks nice, but I don't know if those are even available yet.
As far as comparison to Springfield, my Mil Spec(NM) was $600 OTD and I would choose it over the R1- about the same price, forged frame, and better fit.

Ouch! :wow:

I love mine. I have about 700 rounds thrugh it, and the only problem I have had is one double feed, which was w/in the first box(50) of ammo. It is my only 1911, so I cant really compare it, but it is pretty(IMO) and very rugged and reliable, and shots are on point from the distance I shoot, which is 15 yards.

Mine has been good. $599 was retail at Sportsman's whse so $619 is not out of line. They don't look like a $599 gun. Shoots very well. I am not seeing complaints that someone mentioned.

I am really pleased with both of my R1s.

BTW, $619 is not out of line. You can always see if they will come down off that price. It never hurts to ask. Afterall, they do have a little wiggle room.
