I am thinking about picking up a GSG 1911 (22lr). What can you folks that own or have owned them tell me about them.

I have read a couple of neagtive reviews but I am sure that you can find some about most any firearm or other product. I have had GSG1911 for a couple of months now. Thus far it has proven accurate, reliable and lots of fun to shoot. Most of the parts are interchangable with a true .45 1911 letting you customize it to suit your needs and perhaps mimic your defensive pistol.

I have been hearing things about some kabooms, I think two threads here on GT and one at the shop. That said, we have a grandmaster that shoots at our range all the time and he has one for playing around with. He shoots more than anyone I know, by far. If his hasn't gone kaboom I am inclined to believe that it is just bad luck on teh ones I heard about. Real nice feeling gun, accurate and as some one pointed out, about as true to a real 1911 as you can get.

I thinks it's probably the best rimfire 1911 on the market.

I have no personal experience but a guy at my regular gun shop was extremely happy with one he bought.
Apparently first he had a Chiappa version and did not like it at all.

Two "kaboom" threads have been posted in the last two weeks. So, I guess YMMV...

A guy had one at the range last week, he had just picked it up and was very happy with it. He let me handle it and shoot a mag through it, and it handled just like it's big brother. Pretty neat pistol.

I only shoot cheap Federal HV 550rd. ammo though mine with zero problems. Pretty nice .22 that can be customized with many standard 1911 parts. I put Alumagrips on mine to bring the weight up closer to that of a true all steel 1911. It's now at 38oz with the grips and NHC mainspring housing/magwell.

Care to chair the details?
I sold a bunch of them and had only positive feedback.

Ran alot of rounds threw mine with no issues. Weighs less than my other 1911s but other than that it has the same feel.

A search on here will give you more results if you want them. I've posted my experience a couple of times.

Basically I loved it at first, until it broke at about 2k rounds. A little research on here and other forums with GSG forums/threads and I found others with the same issue. The barrel bushing breaks causing the spring plug and spring to launch out the end.

But.... after about 3 months I did finally get the rest of my repair parts as of yesterday, ATI sent me a replacement spring so now I can put it back together.

One of the most fun .22 pistol I have, but I've lost faith in it's reliability.

I own one and love it. Fun to shoot and very reliable. The major draw back is its Zinc alloy slide. I wish GSG would of made it with alum alloy instead. But I guess to keep the slide-barrel true to 1911 design, something must of give.

Let's face it, if you want a 22lr pistol for it's accuracy, reliability and durability? You should probably look for Ruger Mark series or Browning Buckmark series. But GSG offers one of most true to 1911 design 22 pistol available on the market. So we gun guys can play barbie dress up with our 1911s. :tongueout:

Just received mine Thursday and went right to the range with a fresh box of mini mags and had no issues at all. I had read all 26 pages on another forum but believe the early issues have been resolved. Here's hoping!!!!
