View Full Version : S&W 1066mm
Was just given a 1066 10mm by my daughter in law. She bought it new in the early 90's. I understand this pistol was only made from 90-92. Sure wish ammo wasn't so scarce. Range has range ammo and usually only 1 or 2 choices for SD. My daughter in law shoots this thing like a tack driver. And she is fairly petite. Only one magazine and the bottom cap was cracked and coming apart. Luckily LGS was able to order a replacement cap and new spring. Pretty cheap too. Any thoughts about this gun and any idea where I can buy extra magazines for it. Does it disassemble like a 1911 for cleaning or any tricks I should know. Gun is all SS and is in excellent condition
Thx
<<jealous! !!! I love those older s&w semi-autos. As for info...no help here..I just want a pic so I can drool a little bit. :-)

Yes, I had one and sold it (wish I never did:crying:) It's a dang good gun!
I can't remember how to disassemble, been to long. try this:http://www.vintagegunleather.com/gun-manuals/pdf_S/smith_wesson_centerfire.pdf
As for parts, try Midway. For mags, S&W sells for about $42 each.
As for ammo, have you ever thought about reloading?
If you can't afford the ammo, I can take it off your hands :whistling:

Very good gun. I carried a 4506, which is basically the same gun but in 45ACP. It disassembles like most third gen S&W. Really nothing like a 1911. It's kind of complicated till you get used to it. I would Google it to find disassemble instructions and diagrams.
These guns will last forever. The only drawback is that they are a little heavy, especially when you carry it for 10 to 12 hours a day. :phew:
Don't hesitate to use full power 10mm loads!! I converted my 4506 to handle 45 Super with no problem.
Almost forgot, I have found a number of 4506 mags on Gunbroker.com. I would imagine they have 10mm also. I only use S&W magazines.
UNDERWOOD AMMO, 10mm isn't scarce anymore. And Kevin Underwood loads to true 10mm. There is a God. And he cares a G20 chambered in Chuck Norris, backed up by a 29sf loaded with 11 135 Noslers by Underwood.

I had a 1026 and sold it for a profit. What a mistake.
I like all the 3rd gen Smiths.
That is awesome, congrats!
Thanks everyone. Will try and post a pic. It is kinda heavy to carry but I normally carry a Glock 19 or 21sf anyway
