Bought a gen4 19 to carry i am a small frame guy
i am 5'5" 170 and am having trouble carrying it my question is how much smaller and easier is it to carry the 26?

you have to dress around the gun !!! and the 26 is a great little gun .. what holster are you using ?

02-27-2012, 20:05
is it that more easily carried than the 19

02-27-2012, 20:06
it is but i would keep the 19

I think the compact is just as easy to carry concealed as the sub compact is. How are you concealing? What holster? A good leather IWB holster will hide almost any pistol no matter the size of the person.

i have a 17l also

dont need three 9mms

I carry a 26, in a SOB holster. I could see where that would work for a 19

Same size here, and while I love my 19 & 35, I don't often carry them . J-frame or Rohrbaugh fit nicely.

Here's thread with pics where I compare the 26 to smaller guns: PM9, 642, LCP.

Seems a common question from people with the 19, asking if the 26 would conceal easier for them. It might, to some degree, but they (and you) probably could use an even smaller gun for your carry options :)

These aren't mine...what you are looking at is a 19 and 26 in a crossbreed supertuck (made for the 26) as you can see the only part of the weapon that you would need to be concerned about (printing) is the additional length of the grip.

Sub-compacts typically have +1 (+2 for 9mm) finger extensions on their mags. This makes their grip almost as large as that of the g19. The grip is the most difficult part of the gun to hide. I went from a G26 to a G23. Same size as the G19. I use a Galco Thck-N-Go IWB and a Comp-Tec Paddle OWB. The Tuck wears well at 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 comfortably. I would take the advice above to dress around the gun and enjoy it. A great pistol.

I have a G27.
And have G23 mags with X-Grip sleeves - but never use them.

For me, G26/G27/G33 is about the perfect size, weight and firepower for concealed carry.

I have seven handguns.
Including a Sig Sauer P239/357, Kahr MK40 Elite/40 and S&W 640-1/357.
The G27 is my clear favorite for EDC.

Just today I was driving in my car pondering the wonder of how the Comp-Tac CTAC allows me to carry a G19 around so comfortably and easily. I'm 190 # and 5'8 and I carry around 5:30 on the back. No gouging into the back, very comfortable, excellent concealment. If you haven't tried one, give it a shot before moving to the smaller platform.

For a long time I carried the G26 the same way, and at first I noticed the G19 was ever so slightly more difficult to conceal, but hardly much at all with any sort of printed shirt to cover it. I use a wilderness belt.

Good luck,

i tried the grip prints

maybe i scanned too quickly...what position are you wearing it? what holsters have you tried? what angle/cant are you carrying it? they all make a huge difference.

Started with a G19 but had grip printing issues even with a good holster and belt (crossbreed and beltman). Switched to a 26 and my printing problems went away

If you are new to concealed carry, there are some things you need to consider. You really will need to dress around the gun, if you are serious about carrying a fighting pistol. Sure, you could drop a S&W Bodyguard .380 or a Ruger LCP into a pocket, but that is truly last ditch in my opinion. A G19 or G26 is more appropriate, but petite they ain't. I am larger than you, at 6', 230lbs(dammit), and I can easily conceal a G19 if I wear the right clothes. Since I no longer carry a badge with my gun, I am happy with the G26, which I typically carry with a Glock +2 in the gun, and two more in Comp-Tac kydex on my off side. I use an IWB holster from Kolbeson Leather most of the time, and in warmer weather, my usual attire is a button down shirt, with a square cut hem. Camp shirt, Hawaiian shirt, bowling shirt, whatever, they are meant to be worn untucked and look fine as casual work wear, normal casual wear, etc. Keep in mind that I am 48 yrs old, and don't dress like my 20yr old son. If you are younger, a polo or T-shirt, loosely fit, will also work just fine. I can carry the G26 in a pocket holster in loose khakis or cargo pants using the standard flat based magazine, or in an ankle holster the same way. I think that if you are willing to work around the gun, the G19 will hide just fine, but even with the extended mags, the G26 will be just a little easier to hide. I've been carrying concealed for about 25 years, and I find the G26 to be just about the best all around CCW pistol I have ever used.

IMO, the 26 is much easier to conceal than the 19.
But i love the 19 so i bought both

Same height and weight here. 43" chest and 31" pants-waist. I've carried a G19 with no problem wearing a t-shirt/polo/oxford and chinos or jeans. I prefer an OWB holster and exclusively use Raven Concealment. Not a fan of IWB but there's no better IWB holster than Milt Sparks Summer Special-II (I've tried the VM-2).

Bottom line: carrying concealed is a lifestyle change. You're just not going to be able to wear the same shirts as you used to if you wear modern-fitted clothing; with the exception being those up here in the great white north and who know they'll not have to remove their coats.

Personally, I won't carry a Glock subcompact without a Pearce +0 pinky extension; and in that case, it's no more concealable than a G19/23 IMO. Just personal preference.

I own both a G23 and a G27. I find that even with the Pearce +0 extension my 27 conceals far better than my 23. I use a Bianchi Covert Option at about 3 o'clock with a pretty serious forward cant. I'm about 6' 190lbs, but these damn love handles are hard to contend with sometimes.

I carry a Glock 19 daily without an issue I'm 5' 10" 180 lbs. I usually will carry it in a Desantis three slot holster with minimum cant at about the 4 o'clock position. A loose fitting t-shirt or polo will conceal it fine. When I am being lazy I will toss it in either a comptac paddle or a desantis viper paddle with a sweatshirt or un-buttoned button up shirt to cover it.

A proper holster on a proper gunbelt, and a 19 is easy to conceal OWB or IWB. What holster and gunbelt are you using? (safariland als isn't a concealment holster). Bought a gen4 19 to carry i am a small frame guy
