Has anybody tried a conversion barrel for a G21 45acp to 10mm? KKM states that using thier conversion barrel requires a mod to the extractor. What do they mean? I have not gotten my head around how a 45 caliber slide can cycle a 40 caliber round.

There have been several threads on this. Apparently, you don't even have to use a conversion barrel. You can drop in a factory glock 20 barrel and it will work. Here's the thread (warning, it gets a little heated when the people who hadn't tried it tell the guy who'd done it that it couldn't be done.) http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=938598

The width of the outer barrel is the same, but the width of the Barrel hood - portion that locks with the slide is not. The G21 barrel is 0.052 inches wider. (not surprising since the .45 is 0.05 inches bigger than a 10mm) This is why there are conversion barrels out there - they are made from G21 barrel blanks drilled for 10mm / .40 calibre instead of .45. They should fit a better to a G21 frame. On the other hand, your only talking about 0.025 inches on either side... not a large gap by any means.

I haven't tried this, but probably will at some point. Read the thread - it's a very interesting read.

Just one more thought - If/when I do convert my G21 to 10mm, I am probably going to go with a 6inch KKM 21/20 conversion barrel.

My reasoning is this: I want 6 inches because I plan to use it for hunting, and I want it to be obvious what barrel I have in the pistol. Second, the 6 inch KKM conversion barrel costs the same as a KKM G20 barrel...and $10 less than the 6 inch factory G20 barrel.

And this is where I get hung up. With 40 Super pushing a 200gn slug @ 1350fps, I ask myself; why go with 10mm? And when I answer myself... I say, Self, the only people that loads the 40 Super is DT, and they are on my do not call list. And; The 10mm seems to have picked up quite a bit of steam. But since I only have a public education diploma, my argument with myself always ends up in a draw. :crying:

Just a little thought to muddy up the waters: If I can obtain 10mm performance with the 45 Super cartridge, then I feel it deserves serious consideration. But, the question I find myself asking is: If Glock felt that a 17# recoil spring was adequate for the G20, then why is it so critical to upgrade the G21 recoil spring? Does the G20 slide weigh that much more than the G21 slide?
