I have an old Gen II G-17, if it werea car you could say the odometer had rolled over a few times. I purchased itnew and carried it as a duty weapon, off duty weapon, then later a bed standweapon, under the pickup seat weapon, well you get the picture. I contactedGLOCK and was attempting to send it to them for a frame upgrade and re-finishon the slide. Their paperwork suggest UPS or FedEx and this is when myadventure started.

I got on the FedEx and UPS websites and ended up callingthem, third and fourth biggest mistake of my life. After talking to the FedExlady, Mrs. Adjouane who had a heavy 911ish accent, she was not helpful, and actually told me at one point they didn't allow shipment of firearms unlessthe shipper and receiver had a firearms license that had to be presented at thecounter of the special FedEx store that she couldn’t seem to give me theaddress of. So after being neck deep inher BS for about 30 min. I thanked her and hung-up.

I called UPS and spoke with "Veronda" not sure ofthe accent but got the impression she was from Canada, maybe the French side.Anyway, she had to speak with her supervisor four times during the conversationand finally told me I had to take the gun, unloaded, a statement she repeatedseveral times, to a UPS customer center she said they are open Monday throughFriday 9am to 5pm. She gave me an address of the nearest one and naturally it was 35 milesaway. I took up my pistola, UNLOADED, and go to the address to be greetedby a sign that says,

AS OF 2009 THIS FACILITY ONLY SHIPS PACKAGES FOR PUBLICCUSTOMERS FROM 4PM to 6PM Mon and FRI.

I thought it was odd for it to say Mon and Fri, There is no phone number to call and all doors are locked. There are signs on every entry door, overhead door, and every so often on thefence and walls of the building that say "NO FIREARMS ALLOWED ONPREMISIS" I Googled the store and there is no phone listing for it, it islisted as a UPS customer shipping center. Oh by the way, it was 0930 am today, Wednesdaywhen I arrived and found this out.

After going home and kicking my swearing tree out back for a while Ithought I would give everyone a laugh and post my adventure. I am consideringdriving to Smyrna GA and hand delivering the gun getting a motel room for 4 to6 weeks and calling it a vacation. After all it’s only half way across thecountry.

You can ship it via Fedex if it's going to a repair facility/manufacturer/maker.
You do not need to show an FFL for either party.
You DO need to ship from a Fedex terminal, not a Kinkos or other strip-mall Fedex outlet.

Yep, I know all that I have shipped before to Glock, H&K, S&W but I just could not believe what I went through to get it done this time. It's like they don't want to do it anymore, by the way the FedEx place is 64 miles away lol

I shipped my 1911 to a gunsmith via Fedex last year. It was not difficult at all.

I did have to pay for next day air even though the gunsmith was only a 2 hour drive away.

I didn't mind paying the $34 nearly as much as I would have minded driving two hours there and two hours back.

ha,
you should try shipping a machine gun by the usps in a small town in nc. i went in to have it mailed and told the lady it was a rifle. she said we cannot ship rifles thru the mail. then i told her it was a beretta sub machine gun model 38a. she bout had a stroke for sure. she balked, so i said please get the postmaster. i showed him my tax stamp and the buyers info. he grabbed it like it was the black plague and rushed it to the vault.

That sounds really odd about the UPS hub. Granted, I live in the same town as UPS's global air hub, so I just took it to the hub and had to ship it unloaded next-day-air. No problems at all, just expensive. Same experience with FedEx.

I feel for ya. My UPS center has the same hours..... every fifth thurs unless it's a full moon then the following friday-lol, but its an accross town drive not miles. I did ship firearms and a couple of Glock frames in during the ''E'' series recall with minimal fuss though.

Haaaa, thats sad. I ship all firearms via USPS, Priorty which is CHEAPER, FASTER and hours are great. My post office is even open to 2:00 PM on Saturdays. I just today got my SPS Tactical delivered to my door back from Florida at CDI Precision and it was shipped on the 28th. I wouldn't use UPS or FED-X to ship anything because of their COST, their handling everything like it was a football, and all the hoops they try to make you think you have to jump through and of course their crappy hours. Handguns, Long guns can ALL be shipped through USPS.:wavey:

Centerfire handguns CANNOT be mailed via the PO without an FFL involvement at the SHIPPER'S end, except for certain specific military & police exemptions.

This is why you cultivate a great relationship with a local gun shop. If I needed to ship one of mine, I'd go see my pal whom I have spent an really really really large amount of money with. Get him to ship it for me.
