I got my tax stamp on Friday, after 5 months for my Form 1 to get approved. I drove EVERYWHERE today to find a decent, yet not too expensive upper so I could fire it today. I finally found a Stag Arms 11.5, and I had to drive 2 hours to get it. I wasn't expecting my stamp to take 5-ish months...I was prepared for 7-8 months. Go figure.

Anyway, pretty much the only thing I don't like is the VERY thick barrel profile.

I shot 100 rounds of XM193 through it, and 25 rounds of M855 through it. This m-f'er is LOUD, but that's probably due to the Troy muzzle break I put on it. http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/smiley_smartass.gif

It shakes the ground at my buddies house. We took it into the woods to his little range/dirt mound, and went to town. The concussion is insane, and the flash is CRAZY! I'm in love!

The Troy muzzle break works VERY well. I was doing double taps with very little muzzle rise.

I'm now officially addicted to NFA stuff, but I'll have to wait until I get back to VA after ETS'ing from the Army to get more NFA toys. (I'm headed to Korea in Jan, then I'm DD-214'ing the eff out!)

The Stag upper was clearly test-fired from the factory, and everything was top-notch. The extractor had the o-ring and such, and the bolt and barrel are marked "HP/MP", along with the F-marked front sight post. Barrel is a 1/7 twist.

Overall, I'm VERY satisfied with the upper. Upon closer research, supposedly these SBR uppers come from Stag's LE division, which supposedly takes extra care of them. Based on its performance today, I'd believe it. I had no issues whatsoever, except having the ground underneath me shake due to the muzzle break. I'm pretty sure this thing is louder than a Barrett.

.....and yes, I'm an inconsiderate *******. If you don't like loud noises, get another hobby. :nutcheck: ....the concussion isn't THAT bad, and with my Peltor's, it didn't require 2 layers of ear pro. Then again, I was shooting outside, in a wooded area. YMMV.

Nice setup. If I had to do it again, I would have gone with the 11.5" Bravo upper, instead of the 10.5" LMT.

My first AR SBR was a 11.5". Excellent compromise between length and utility in the 5.56 platform, IMO. I will agree, once you get your first stamp.... it's all over. I've got 5 already, and I have 3 more in various stages of review. I'd put in the paperwork for the suppressor now, by the time you get back, it will be ready for you.

Quick question... if I were to SBR a lower but later had to move to a state that does not allow SBR's, do I have to submit a request to "un SBR" the lower? Or would it be easier (and cheaper) to just sell it before the move?

You would write a letter to the ATF requesting to remove the lower from the NFA registry. You would then have to get rid of the short upper and go with a 16" + barrel. If the lower started life as a pistol, you could remove the stock and put on a pistol tube and go that route as well. If you plan on selling the SBR, you will practically have to give it away in order for anyone to take it, since most people shy away from the 6-7 month wait for SBR's.

If you didn't plan on staying in the non-SBR state forever, you could form a corp/trust and assign a trustee who doesn't live in the non-SBR state and when you move, fill out the paperwork to permanently move the SBR to the trustee. Since the trust owns the weapon, you won't have to pay another $200 tax and the paperwork will only take a few weeks as opposed to 6 months.

In reference to going with another caliber - I will probably stay with 5.56 just to keep things simple. If I end up getting a suppressor, I might give .300 AAC Blackout a try. :wavey:

My Stag built AR came with the same upper; good yours is working for you, mine wouldn't fire more than one or two rounds consecutively and they wouldn't give me a FA MP/HP BCG the first two times it had to go back.
