OK, after some thinking while calculating the winner on the most improved shooter thread, I realized that the only consistent stage in the various GSSF matches was Glock the Plates, so.............
We will again use a calendar year (using the 1st match of 2012 as a stating point) for the competition and the following rules will apply.

1-Amatuers only (Civ or Guardian) This should ensure a fairly consistent playing field gunwise.
2-Shoot a minimum of 3 matches
2a- we only count your plate scores
2b- we take your best 3 scores
3- lowest total score wins.

We can post running scores and make this a long thread or you can keep it on the QT and we will start gathering scores near the end of the year. I kind of like the ever changing leader board and a long thread, but I will let you guys (and gals) decide.

For you master shooters, maybe I can come up with something different :whistling: Maybe least penalties or something but don't hold your breath.

Also, let me take the time to thank Greg for his donation of a holster and mag pouch combo for this new competition. Y'all check out his stuff at alabamaholster.com and keep an eye out for the announcement of the winner of the Most Improved Shooter award in the other thread.

Good luck to anyone participating.

Is it "most improved" plate rack score or simply the lowest plate rack score?

How does one "enter"?

Anyone meeting the Amatuer qualification and shooting the required number of matches (3) in the required categories (am civ/am guardian) can submit their 3 best Glock the Plates scores for the calendar year. Lowest combined score wins. If your first 3 matches were 18.05, 19.10 and 20.25, you can submit them and then in the interest of thread continuation, you could come back and update your scores after match 4 when you shot a 13.11. Your new submission would be 13.11, 18.05 and 19.10.

The other way would be for competitors to wait and submit their best 3 at the end of the year; that might add to the suspense, but would shorten the thread. We might even have a combination of both with people submitting scores as they come in and a sleeper waiting until the end of the year. :faint:

Either way, we will use the best 3 scores of the 3+ you submit.

Griffin, GA 2012 - 15.72
Morganton NC 2012 - 21.41 (ugh)
Knoxville, TN 2012 - 19.89

My current 3 match total is 57.02. But I have at least two more matches, want to see if I can't get that down into the 40's.

BamaTrooper

OK, how about this.
For those of you interested in posting your scores throughout the year, post them in this thread in this manner. Ex:

Griffin GA 2012- 15.23
Thibodaux, LA 2012- 18.06
etc...

You can come back in and edit your scores as they become available and we won't have to sort through as many entries.

Also, please feel free to let other GSSF folks know about this contest. The more the merrier.

If in the event you obtain master status, only matches before your promotion will count. Anyone amatuer shooter determined to meet master status per GSSF rules will not be eligible, i.e. top 10 finisher in Steel Challenge, etc...

2. Dawsonville-18.09

3. Columbia-

Total:

Got bumped to master after Dawsonville, so much for my Columbia, Conyers and Charleston scores.

Quick question. Do you just need to be an AM competitor and you post up your best score at the match, or do you need to post up your best score from that category?

For example: I shoot both AM Civ and Comp with the same G23. If I did better with my Comp entry on the plates can I post that score, or does it need to be the score from my AM entry?

I'm not BamaTrooper, but Bama's my Master shooter counterpart on Team AHC, my Jedi Master, and I once thought that I beat him in SubCompact... so I can probably answer this.

I can see where Bama is getting at when he stated "...ensure a fairly consistent playing field gunwise."

"Gunwise" is the clue to your answer. In Competition, Longslides and 'Cs' are added to the AmCiv and Guardian gun model list, making Competition not such a consistent playing field. Ergo, my money's on scores from AmCiv or Guardian Divisions only, will be counted.

That's the problem with contests... you need a Philadelphia lawyer to write the rules. Any Philly attorneys on here?

For this contest we are going with Am Civ and Am Guardian scores. If anyone wants to shoot a 26, etc... in those, feel free, but the largest category is usually AmCiv so we will use that and Am Guardian.

Note that per 170.90 of the rules JUNIOR shooters are allowedto use long slides and C models in AmCiv.

With an Am Civ eligible gun? I feel your pain. I shoot a 2nd gen G17 in Master stock, comp and unlimited. I have switched the order around trying to hit master stock at the sweet spot, but for some reason the unlimited category ends up being the best score and that is competiting with dot guns.

Yes. I shoot the comp division mainly for extra practice and the additional random entry.

Same as me...

Just to make it fair (and simple) we will use the Am Civ/Am Guard scores. At least that way, GSSF is doing some of the checking and since I can't verify which guns were shot, we will assume they did it for us.

Meh, not in AmCiv or Comp. You should see my HM & MS times! :embarassed::rofl:

Yeah, I have a timer but it is difficult to use at the indoor range. Right now, I just can't seem to get out somewhere outdoors to practice. :crying: At least an hour drive and my truck is down for the moment. I have a few ideas to try indoors to work on the transitions as long as the range doesn't give me too much grief on the width of the target. I think I can set up at least 3 plates to practice on. I have broken into the 5's on individual strings before but not consistently.

No need to even fire a live round for what I am suggesting.
Get a dummy round or 5 or 15...
Set your timer up to double beep (par time?) and then see if you can get on target and pull the trigger under the par time. This could help with reaction and acquiring the first sight picture; I find that to be the hardest one to get, so any (good) practice and muscle memory should help when it comes match time.

PM720

Ah, gotcha. I will give that a try. I know I need to dry fire more anyway.

Thanks!

Just shot Piru last weekend, and that's it for me this year. In January, it start all over, and I'm hoping to add Yolo, and Richmond for a total of 7 matches for the year. At 5 divisions each match (averaging 500 rounds per match, prolly gonna be less) that's 3,500 rounds a year just for GSSF. :)

I'm a new shooter and I love this thread but you guys are out of my league. I did shoot my first three matches this year in Dayton, Indy and Lexington but my combined times are north of 240 seconds (14 misses). First shot with .357 sig and the other two with G17.

Need to practice up and try again next year as I'm done for 2012.

Interestingly, I shot comp at each match (same guns) and my combined was 136 seconds (3 misses). I always shoot amciv first...I guess there's something to warming up. Still need to speed it up though.

Thanks Bama for sponsoring this thread.
