Anyone have a good weight and load in mind for .40 XTP bullets? I will be using WSP primers or Federal SP. Powder will be one of three, bullseye, power pistol or unique.
Thanks,
Mark

Ok, I'll bite. We need more info to answer that question for you though.
What are you using this load for?
What velocities are you trying to achieve?
What gun(s) will they be fired through?
That should help get started toward your answer.

First target practice and also personal protection. I like the XTP for both in my 9mm and .357sig and just wanted to know if there were any favorite loads for these.
Velocities are not a big issue as long as they are pretty accurate.
They will be shot through a G22 gen 4 and a S&W sigma .40.
Thanks,
Mark
180 gr XTP's

What book loads have you found? The 180 gr XTP is a pretty popular bullet and there is data for Power Pistol in the Hornady manual. There is also data for Longshot which will get a little more velocity (1100 fps vs 1050 fps).
If you really want that bullet to fly, you might use the Longshot data from the Hodgdon Annual Reloading Manual. They have a load that should run about 1159 fps.
You can also get the same Hodgdon loads from their web site:
http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp
Personally, I don't load SD ammo; some folks do. I would be looking for MV around 900 fps or so for target use.
Since I use a lot of 700-X, I might load somewhere between 4.3 gr (904 fps) and 4.8 gr (966 fps). Oddly, I use 4.8 gr in all of my .45 ACP loads. The 966 fps load would easily make 'major' for IDPA. In fact, 4.5 gr ought to do it - subject to confirmation with a chronometer.
If you are loading in any quantity, you might want to look at Precision Delta. They have a 180 gr FMJ for $122/1000 shipped. The cheapest I see the XTP is about $170/1000 PLUS shipping.

Alliant shows this recipe for a 180gr GDHP:
Power Pistol 7.2gr, 1.12 OAL, CCI500, 1013fps.
I'd assume that's their suggested max, being that it's the only load they have on the website for it. That plus your Hornady manual saying Max is 6.7gr.
I know the Gold Dot isn't exactly the same as the XTP, but most people use the same starting data for JHP's of the same weight, regardless of manufacturer. Of course, you dont just start at Max, or where some dude on the interweb said he sets his charges at. Always do your own workups, to find what's safe in your gun. You'll find that there are a lot of variances in data from book to book.

I'd go with the 180 grainers, and Power Pistol & Unique are both powders that produce good accuracy & velocity.
Like suggested above, if you plan on shooting alot, look into Zero or Precision Delta to buy in bulk. I just bought 2k Zero 180gr JHP's @ $125 per k.

Not entirely a big fan of 180gr in the .40 S&W. It's too long to be optimal in the short case. 165gr is a better choice but isn't available in the XTP in that weight. Gold Dot would be a better choice.
For target, companies like Precision Delta, Montana Gold, etc offer good bullets and lower prices than using premium defense bullets just to kill paper.
