I bought two new firearms in the last year, both Rugers and both fine firearms. My FFl got me a SR 1911 back in June and last month he got me one of their new M-77/357s. These are impossible to find locally as every shop has a waiting list. I got it zeroed yesterday out in the desert with the old dog tagging along and my favorite hand load and man is it fun! ....110 yards busting clays on the berm.

A handy short rifle that is the definition of 'truck gun'. The rotary mags are flawless and the only improvement I would make would be to store one in the buttstock, securely but easily removed/installed. I put a Leupold 2-7 on it but think I will go with a Skinner peep rear sight and dump the scope.

.357mag is my favorite caliber and I collect any rifle I can chambered in it. This makes #4.

Here is Jeff's review and I agree.

'decent'??

I'll let Ruger know you blessed them with an almost positive review.

Is this the same size as the M77 Compacts?

Yes, it is just a 77/xx series chambered for the .357 (the same action has been used for rifles chambered for .17HM2, .17HMR, .22LR, .22WMR, .22 Hornet, and .44 Magnum)

Not exactly revolutionary, but it is about the only bolt-gun available in .357 Magnum.

The LGS has had one on the shelf for a few weeks... not much interest around here.

One more question. Will it shoot .38s?

yep but they feel like a squibb

yep but they feel like a squibb

That's funny. I was wondering if the .38 had enough behind it to perform in a rifle barrel. Guess not. Thanks

I have to admit that Ruger is one of the very few companies that seem to be releasing better guns as the years go by. I just bought one of their .45 ACP Sheriff's models, and love it. It is a good companion to my .44 Special Flattop that they released a couple years ago. Keep them coming, Ruger. You are getting the money that S&W was getting from me before their guns got gimmicky and their quality went to hell.
