Well, for the first time in a long time I've actually got TWO firearms at the same time,LOL.
I think this combination is going to work out pretty well, I've got my 642-2, 38Spl for EDC/CCW and now and ATI Commander size 45acp for Home Defense and general shooting. Also, if need be my wife can use the 642 and I can take the 1911a1 so we'd both be armed if we needed to be. Gives me a bit more peace of mind knowing we'd both be able to defend ourselves.
I know, it's not happened until I post a pic, well here ya' go.

(Elvis) Thank you, Thank you very much.(/Elvis)
Something else I'd like to pass on, WalMart had the Federal 230gr FMJ for just under $18 bucks a box, got two boxes out the door for a little over $38 bucks, same as I paid for 100 rounds of crappy WWB for my 40cal.
Of course once I get all my loading stuff for 45acp it'll be a moot point. I'll be loading up 50 rounds for around $3 bucks with home cast bullets.

I may try to get out tomorrow and put a mag full through it at 7yrds. just to see where the sights are hitting. Can't shoot too much, even though I'm rural I've got neighbors and don't want to make em' think WW III has broken out,LOL.
I'll be sure to post a pic of the target.

I have one and it has been to good so far. I think it has the best specs of any 1911 within a few hundred $$ of it's price.

Good job twice. Be nice to your wife and maybe she will left you borrow her 642. S&W 642 make great pocket carry.

I'm not a 1911 guy, but I like the looks of that one. Cool grip color on dark.

Why yes, now that you have 2 you can let them breed. I wonder what those children would look like?

Congrats!

What grips are those on your 642? I like them. I assume from the picture they work with speed loaders?

DeSantis Clip Grips. They're a take off of the Barami Hip Grips and I like em' a lot better then the Barami Hip Grips because they're practically an exact copy of the factory grips(only these are glass filled nylon, not that crappy rubber) with a clip added so you can IWB without the need for a holster. It's a very comfortable way to carry a J-Frame, especially an enclosed hammer model like the 642.

I thought your OCD prevented you from owning 2 firearms from different manufacturers?

These are both Classic handguns so my OCD is perfectly happy. Besides a S&W 1911a1 is going for what, $800 or $900, my OCD can just take a chill pill and not worry about it,LOL.

Congrats! What were you using for your EDC and home defense gun before?

Congrats! What were you using for your EDC and home defense gun before?

Depends on how long ago you want "Before" to be. About a year and a half ago I had a Taurus 605, 357Mag snub. Had that for about a year at the time but then my truck needed work so I had to sell it to get my truck fixed.
Went about 6 months with no gun at all in the house then picked up a Beretta 92F Compact. Sold that and got a Beretta PX4 Storm but it still was too large and heavy for EDC so I traded that for my current 642-2 and have never been happier. Pretty much like getting the Taurus 605 back except it's a S&W and lighter to carry.
Still didn't like the idea of only having 5 shots for those "bump in the night" situations so I started looking for a full size semi to use for HD and Plinking since a full size is a lot more comfortable to plink with then a snub nose, airweight 38Spl.
Thought about a Sig Pro 2340 and a Beretta 96 but then a couple weeks ago I had a dream that I was a bodyguard for some rich guy and I had a Glock G22 and the trigger was really hard to pull(don't know why, ever Glock I've had has had a pretty decent trigger) so I went to the gun store to trade it in and they said the only thing they'd trade for was one of their 1911a1 kits. I was in the process of building one when I woke up and figured it was a "sign" that I should be looking for a 1911a1.
Soooooo, I started looking and found the RIA's that Mark had as Summit for $425+ shipping and FFL fees(it'd be just under $500) then I lucked out and found a guy with the ATI that I've got listed for $475 with mags, holster and a box of 20 rounds of HP ammo. Sent him an e-mail and ask if he'd take $450, he said he would and the rest is history.
Wheeew, that was a long story. :faint:

I think sub-consciously YOUR set-up influenced MY set-up.LOL.
I remember seeing your pic in other posts and thinking "hey, that looks like a cool pair of guns to own." and low and behold, now I own a pair very much like yours.
You know what they say, great minds think alike.
