Coming April 12, 2012 - YouTube

The s&w forums seem to be leaning toward a single stack 9mm M&P. Which would be AWESOME.

That is kinda hard to figure. Lots of stuff talking about how dangerous things are and they use the word "SHIELD" quite a few times.

Maybe it is a slim, single stack 9, 40 and 45acp like those from Ruger and others. It would be cool to see that. OTOH it could be some kind of non-lethal tool too. Kimber has that gizmo that shoots pepper gas and everyone knows TASERS.

Guess we'll just have to sit and wait to see what it is.

Why so much obsession with single stack compacts? What's so attractive about a gun that holds half as many rounds yet still doesn't fit in a pocket?:dunno:

Agree. I don't get it either.

Well, according the unoffficial rumor mill, a new Glock-like trigger on the M&P pistol.

One can only hope that they will announce that all future revolvers will not have the internal lock. :whistling:

That was my first thought in another thread, and I know that the trigger mod is coming. That said, I suspect that this video is advertising a different product. I doubt S&W want to publicize the soon-to-be obsolescence of existing stock.

Maybe it's a single stack collection of compact polymer pistols to include a 10mm. :whistling:

Maybe it will be a M&P9c but with a $100 gift card that you can take to your tailor and have him sew extra big pockets in your trousers. This makes it a "pocket gun."

With the word "shield" being tossed out so much, I'm guessing it is not a firearm.

A while back I called S&W to see if there were plans to bring out the M&P in 10mm. Got transferred to marketing and the guy says no, there are no plans for it. I said oh, the frame can't take it. He got defensive and said no that's not it at all, they just don't see a market for it. I then pointed out they make a 10mm revolver (they did at the time) and was curious about a market that supports the revolver version but not a semiauto version of the 10mm. He brought the phone call to a close promptly.

The hinged trigger has been the deal breaker for me. If Smith were to change that, then I would have to take a second look. Dang you S&W, don't do that. I don't need new expenses at the moment!! :faint:

BTW: I can't view the video. It says it is "private". :crying: How did you guys view it? Do I need a secret decoder ring? :sigh:

Citizen of dreams and comedian...

Single stacks are great for me. I'm 6'1" and 165lbs, I wear a 30/34 pant size. While I can conceal my 23 well sometimes, single stacks are much easier to conceal and ALOT more comfortable for me. As far as capacity goes, I hope I NEVER have to use my firearm, let alone squeeze off more rounds than a single stack offers. I feel perfectly fine with single stack firepower. You may not have a need for single stack, but many do. That is why so many companies make them and why so many people show interest in them.

It is definitely a new pistol. Not sure what kind but probably a sub compact version of the M&P

Thats interesting. I'm surprised that Glock is the only one who makes a polymer pistol in 10mm and often wondered why Springfield or S&W haven't jumped on the bandwagon. I carry my G29sf IWB a good bit and certainly do not feel outguned carrying it. I really enjoy shooting it at the range too. I just need to start reloading now instead of buying ammo for this beast.

A single stack would be cool, something that's a true competitor to the Kahr CM9.

That's a great idea. Let's copy the crappiest trigger I've ever used. The Glock is a good pistol in spite of it's trigger, not because of it.

Ask the 1911 fans.

But anyway, apparently the market likes them. That's what counts.

It's also been removed from the smith-wesson.com home page. Both were up as of last night when I created this thread.

Interesting. Maybe they're postponing the announcement?

Hey, it worked for Sony 50 years ago.

http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/4Q2iEXBEfFVCHcpa.standard

"It seems "pocket-sized" was a bit of a marketing gimmick at the time - although smaller than any competing product, the TR-63 was a bit too big to fit into a standard shirt pocket. So story has it that company salesmen wore custom-made shirts with slightly bigger pockets to show off the TR-63's small size."

I lost interest in S&W when they discontinued their 3rd gen line and replaced them with yet another Block clone and added insult to injury by naming the aberration "M&P". I lost my love for S&W as soon as I set eyes on the "SIGMA", come to think of it.

I agree, rehashing old names is tacky, not to mention confusing. I feel the same way about the new "Body Guard".
