View Full Version : Shooting Sticks
Any advice while I get accustomed to shooting off sticks? Hold the gun and sticks with my left hand? Hold just the sticks with my left hand? Apply pressure downward or just rest the gun lightly?
All I know is it's not as easy as one might think at first. After my first session I swear I'd be just as accurate off hand.
I have used them only once and I was kneeling. I crossed the sticks and held them in my right hand, rested the rifle on them. (shooting left handed) Did not touch the forearm of the rifle with my hand. I don't know if there is a better way.
I use a bipod (similar). When I shoot I let the gun come to a rest and seat it nicely in my right shoulder. Depending on terrain I either use my left hand to support my right elbow forearm area as needed or I add support to the gun right in front of the trigger guard.
GO to the range and spend some time doing very slow methodical shots experimenting where to place your left hand.

Both interesting techniques that I had not considered. I am looking forward to trying. I was just using my left hand to try and steady everything out front where the gun rested on the sticks. I really like your suggestion of using my left hand to support the right elbow area.
I put about 40 shots down range last weekend and was not happy. Too inconsistent. I've got a month to try and get proficient before my first trip to the dark continent.
