I'm thinking about buying these for my Ruger Security Six 2.75" for woods carry.

Anyone know what velocity I can expect out of such a short barrel?

Would it be to slow for good penetration?

Thanks.

Not sure of the actual velocity but I have shot quite a few assorted 180 grain cast as well as 200 grain Cor-Bon and 200 grain handloads out of my 3 1/16 inch SP 101. They have an amazing amount of penetration. Even when shot out of a short barrel. I also ran a maximun handloaded 158 grain JSP out of my 2.75 inch Sucerity Six and had similar results as if they were run thru the SP 101. One of my buddies just picked up a box of the DT 200 grain cast loads but has not shot them yet. They should be a little hotter than the Cor-Bon and similar to the handloads I have shot. Recoil should be no worse than some of the hot 125 grain loads on the market.

I have both the 180 and 200 HC from them. Sorry no #'s but I prefer the 180. It has a wider meplat than the 200 and a 180 .357 has all the sectional density you could want.

Buffalo Bore, Corbon and Federal also offer heavy hardcast .357mag rounds. However you are not going to get near the potential out of them with only a short 2 3/4" barrel.

DT's actual bullet velocities fall short of what is printed on the box by a good margin, keep that in mind...
