View Full Version : Glock 29 in Glock 20 Serpa?
10 Ring'ers:
I have a Glock 29 with a KKM extended barrel (4.60", same as Glock 20) that I use for hiking. I use it in a Serpa holster attached to my Eberlestock backpack's hip belt; attached to the hip belt via molle.
I want to add a light to this combination, either a Streamlight TLR-3 (preferred) or TLR-1. The problem I have is no one makes a molle-attachable holster for a Glock 29 with a weapon light.
However, there is a Serpa holster for a Glock 20 with a weaponlight. Does anyone know if my G29 with extended barrel will have an issue fitting this holster?

No one has any ideas? I assume the widths are the same between the G20 and 29, as well as the trigger guard size, distance from the grip, etc. I'm betting that the 29 with extended barrel would fit in a G20 Serpa, but I was just hoping someone might be able to add some more logic to this for me.
I have holstered a G34, G17 and G19 in the same holster with out issue, Serpa, Crossbreed, Blade Tech, Uncle Mikes but all had an open bottom, my G26 fit in there as well. All were bought for the G19 size.

I see no reason why it would not fit just fine!

I know my holster for my G29 will hold my G20. I don't have lights on either and dont have the holster you asked about. But as far as width they are the same.
I dropped a G26 into my G20 C-Tac holster and it went in and held with retention. Surprised me, but it did. Maybe that helps? :dunno:
Thanks guys. I'll order the holster for the G20 and give it a shot.

Best thing you can do is toss that Serpa holster in the garbage. The only thing you should be using your trigger finger for is for squeezing the trigger, not operating a holster retention release.

I was wondering how long it would take before this turned into a Serpa-hating thread.
It's all about training. If you train properly, I think Serpa's are great. Now maybe we can skip the Serpa-bashing in this thread?

The 29 will not fit in the Serpa made for a model 20. The frame in front of the trigger is not the same profile. I have this holster for a 20/21 and my 29 and 30 do not fit in it. You have to push really, really hard to get it to lock in...then when it does, it is one heck of a pull to get it out. The 20 and 21 slide in and out smoothly and with little force.
I have a crossbreed ST that fits both my G20 and G29 and can't tell the difference. I imagine the serpa is the same.

The Crossbreed is designed to hold both guns. It also has one side that is leather, and the other a rather thin kydex. The Serpa is a much thicker plastic and is designed only for the 20.

If you use the product selector at Blackhawk.com, you get two different part numbers for a holster for the G30 and G20 (frames the same)
It would appear they are different.
In case anyone is wondering how this worked out, here's the results -
I ordered a Glock 20 light-bearing Level 3 Serpa holster for my Glock 29 with 4.6" KKM barrel. I received that holster today and my 29 fit in it perfectly. It's actually a better fit for my 29 than my Serpa CQC holster made specifically for the 29. (The reason being the Level 3 made for the 20 covers more of the pistol, and the addition of the level 3 "lock" around the rear of the sight/slide keeps it from wiggling around in the holster).
The only issue is that I cannot use either my Streamlight TLR-1 or TLR-3 weapon lights with this holster - it's made specifically for the Blackhawk Xiphos weapon light. Oh, well, I guess I'll get one of those in order to have illumination at night while backpack camping if necessary.
All in all I'm pleasantly surprised this worked.

Look at Safariland for a retention holster that can accommodate a Streamlight or Surefire

I agree. The 29 doesn't seem to want to slip in, then it's a bear to get out.

I assume you guys are trying in a CQC Serpa? If so, then Level 3 Light Bearing Serpa is shaped differently because it fits my 29 perfectly.

I was referring to the Level 2 Tactical SERPA Holster.
