I stopped by WalMart on my way home from work to get some groceries and decided to stop by the ammo counter. The ones I noticed:
22LR 550 pack (Fed and RemGB) went from $19 to $20.
Fed Champion .40 100 pack went from $27 to $28.

Not a huge increase, but it seems like they just raised prices 6 months ago. The Fed Champion 9mm 100 pack is unchanged at $20. I suppose one of these days I'll have to suck it up and make a huge bulk ammo purchase online.

Ammo is heavy......probably reflects the higher gas/diesel prices......

It seems like .40 ammo in general is "inching" up. It use to be closer to the prices of 9mm. Now its closer to the prices of .45.

I have noticed the same thing. In Minnesota the Federal Champion 180gr has gone up from $11.99/50ct to $15.99/50ct in the last couple months. My solution was indeed buying bulk online like you mentioned.

I noticed this also. In my area, cheap 9mm is about $10-$12 a box. Cheap .40 is about $16-$18 a box. And cheap .45 ammo is $17-$20 a box.

I was planning on buying my first .40 S&W soon, but at prices nearing .45 ACP, I might have to rethink it.

I might start reloading. Ammo prices are ridiculous compared to 5-10 years ago.

I don't think I've seen Federal Champion in 40 at my WMs, but 45 has actually gone down a dollar or two in price, 22 has went up, and most of the rest of it has stayed the same for a while.

Ammo prices are moving up like many other things. The improving economy supports price increases, plus fuel costs are driving inflation above and beyond that.

Prices gone up here too. WWB 100rd .45 was $32 now $37. WWB 100rd 9mm was $22 now $24. Last time I bought bulk .22 550 rd it was about $15 now $18-$20

in my area, the wal mart carries only two kinds of handgun ammo. prices as follows for 100rd box

9mm: WWB 22.99, Rem UMC 23.99
.40: WWB 27.99, Rem UMC 28.99
.45: WWB 37.99, Rem UMC 38.99
have been going up every few months for a while. it sucks. i remember WWB 9mm was under 20 bucks not too long ago.

recently, they cant keep 9mm or .40 on the shelves what so ever. i can never get ammo there. ive been ordering it.

my local walmarts have upped .40 ammo by a dollar or so whereas the the .45 has gone down a buck or 2.

In my area WWB 357Sig is ($30 + tax) per 50 round box and this is FMJ target ammo.

I'll be blunt, Walmart, Gander Mt, ect.. are the absolute last places on earth you should be buying ammo from! I wouldn't feed Federal "Champion" branded ammo to any pistol that I own, and I own several dozens.

I shouldn't do this, but I'm a good guy, zip on over to SGAmmo.com and dig out your credit card and buy your ammo in bulk and save huge. .40 S&W is tumbling in price, and SGAmmo has kick ass pricing on cases of premium ammo that is priced right at, or below what wally world is robbing you for on the Federal floor ammo thats sold as "Champion."

At our W mart, Federal 9mm 50 box is up $1 to just under $12...

Rising fuel costs is my guess.

Ive finally had enough of the prices of .45 auto. I got a Dillon 550b and love it!! Especially since I can load up 1000 rounds for about $120. (since I already have brass) Its a great investment that will pay for itself in 1.5 years. Plus, its a really fun hobby that I should have gotten into many years ago.

well, for 9mm, at least, (its what i mainly shoot) its not really that much cheaper. cheapest 9mm is the speer lawman 1000rd (in stock) or WWB 1000rd (which is out of stock) case for near 200 bucks. throw in shipping, and it still ends up being around 21-22 bucks per 100rds... at wal mart you dont have to wait for shipping. if wal mart wasnt out of stock, id buy there and not wait for it (target ammo anyways.)

500rd - 40 cal Winchester 165gr FMJ .40 USA40SWVP (http://www.sgammo.com/product/winchester/500rd-40-cal-winchester-165gr-fmj-40-usa40swvp) 139.50

I have absolutely no idea how you've talked yourself into that mindset, but go ahead and spend your money at walmart. BTW, shipping on the above runs about $16.00.

if you buy 3 or more, its 139
so if you buy one box of 500rds
144+16(shipping)=160$
160/5=32$ for 100rds.
the wal mart near me has WWB .40 for 27 bucks for 100rds

do the math
if you bought 3 boxes of 500rds:
139x3=417
417+28(estimated shipping)=445
445/15=29.66 per 100rds
still more expensive.

you would have to buy several thousand for it to be worth it to me, and who knows how much shipping would actually go up.

but, if i had the urge to buy 4000+ rounds, you bet id order online. for me, i have about 400 rds of Hornady Critical Defense stashed, 2500 rds of WWB target ammo stashed, so i casually buy a couple hundred from Wally world to when i want to shoot every weekend/every other weekend

A $4 jump in the last few months :wow:, There was a point in time when 9mm ammo was selling on Gunbroker at $275 to $330 a 1000 round case in 2009, then dropped back to about $220 or so. Hoarding, election, freight, copper, whatever the reason is that $4 increase blows, I can understand a steady increase over a year for but a few months :steamed:.

Still getting the best deals from my LGS. They run different ammo specials every month. This month it was Lawman 40s&w 50rd for $12.95. I've been buying a few boxes with every check. If its close to the same price I'll go to my LGS over Walmart any day.

A LGS near me sells ammo for $1 a box over cost. He is about the same as on line prices. No shipping but you have to pay State tax it comes out to be about the same but you do not have to buy in large amounts.

now thats a deal. my LGS, however, ammo is not cheap. cheapest box of target .40 was like 35 bucks, cheapest 9mm target ammo was like 28-29 bucks

It will only get worse. One of my friends that works at a local gun shop sent me a e-mail today that said ammo prices are going up more than normal.

223 is already a dollar a box more than it was a week ago, some ammo is becoming hard to get too. He also said that almost all of his distributors are out of AR's and are on back order until further notice! :wow:

He said further that there are many handguns that are out of stock at the distributors as well!

It's going to be a interesting year! Let's see of Mr. President can sell more guns this election cycle than he did last time! :whistling:

I've noticed prices inching up too here in Northwest Bama on .223 and 9mm. There are two Wally Worlds in a span of 6 miles where I live, and the price of .45 range ammo (Remington 230 JHP) is $7 different between the stores. Go figure that one.

I've been lucky as my local WM is very gun/ammo friendly and the sporting goods supervisor always orders a lot of handgun and rifle ammo well in advance as she knows it will sell. Was there yesterday and there was no bulk .223 and no 9mm in boxes over 100 rounds. $23 for a box of WWB in 9mm! Still got boxes I bought for $12 just a few years ago.

She said at this time the warehouse was was saying they were out and she could not order anything so not to expect anything new on the shelves anytime soon. Glad I listened to folks here and bought and kept stocked up on my calibers well before the 08' election.

My advise to anyone out there needing ammo is to buy now and buy as much as you can. Gun sales are high. Election on the horizion. People are going crazy with ammo purchases. If you don't know it ammo prices will never go down. Bet my "stockpile" value has risen over 1K in value (conservitave estimate) since January of 08'.

While I don't want to add to any hoarding hysteria I also don't want any of my GT friends to be without or paying twice what it is now in a few years. I took advise from here over 4 years ago and it paid off for me as well as a few others who listened as well.
